Ah, I was just wondering if I'd missed this somehow today! I'm sorry work's eating your head, and I hope that tomorrow is easier/you can rest. :)

Today I wrote a 1.8k oneshot because it popped fully-formed into my head and I couldn't just leave it there, and I've been adding some words to my big bang fic as well.

9 November check-in: I re-read the beginning of a sequel I started in September then put aside to work on the spooky fic. I'm not sure whether I want to return to that or continue the opening scene that jumped into my head last week. They're both in the same au verse, but I don't think I can combine them. So, nothing I can call progress!

Day 9: 3/4 of a page longhand. And oh yeah, I retyped everything from yesterday because I opened the document and it WASN'T THERE. File claimed it was last saved on Saturday which is ridiculous because I remember closing and re-opening it a couple of times yesterday. And because I often tweak stuff as I type it up, I've lost 28 words.

So my streak of more-than-yesterday is broken but I wrote *something* after all that and I am calling it a win.

Day 9: 2,272 nano words. My doubts from last night deepened and I'm seriously considering giving up, but for now I am hanging in there. (If I gave up on nano I would move to writing something else, I am just not at all sure this project is doable~ But we'll see.)

Sorry your day was so hard on you!

Nov 9th - 1090 words, 5 double drabbles and some editing on a fic for posting. I struggled with writing today. Sometimes the drabble prompt proves really inspiring, and sometimes coming up with 4 ideas for the same prompt (a habit my co-mod and I share) is just a struggle, but I got there in the end and wrote another double drabble for a different prompt on another community.

Still haven't finished my red sweater, the weather's been very overcast and I need good natural light for sewing up, but I'm making progress on the second of my six unfinished projects.

Thank you. It's that time of year again, the SAD is starting to bite and my brain feels like wet sawdust. I'll make it through winter, but it won't be fun =/

Checking in for the 7th, 8th, and 9th. On each day, NaNo was written, although I stayed short of my personal goal of 2k of 40 rsp. 23 words, but on the other hand wrote 2,4k on 8th. Yesterday, I didn't work at my WIP but at two new plotbunnies which were inspired by my quince canning recently. XD Otherwise I'm quite happy that the WIP is taking off, as in, I'm finally getting into it properly, having ideas for how to deal with my plot holes, and what else needs a lot of working. Unfortunately, I also realised that my whole, beautiful, 62k draft needs to be completely rewritten, and to be changed a LOT, to make a really good story. I was rather happy with it back then - but I wrote that in 2013, when I was new in the Tolkien fandom, and although I've been a deep fan of Tolkien since age 10 and had re-read the Hobbit and LotR several times, my overal canon knowledge was rather lacking. But more importantly I find I developed quite a bit as a writer in the meantime, and a lot of the things I liked back then I find totally cringeworthy today, from a writing point of view. *g* Conclusion: this is going to be a much larger project still than I expected, but likely also one that'll give me even more joy than I expected so far.
Outside of writing, I had a few really shitty days, not only because but including the tension around the US elections, and am rather grateful I can delve into my mind space so successfully right now.

Just out of curiosity do you source solely from the books? I ask because I'm re-reading LoTR at the moment and I'm spotting some interesting divergences in the movies.

Thank you! Writing- and canon-wise I'm firmly book canon (although I have one drawer fic with movie! Haldir, as in, injured at Helm's Klamm), although the movies influenced my visual imagination of Middle-earth considerably. Particularly as landscape and iconography is concnered (as in, culture, items, clothing etc.), and for some characters, the actors acting or looks, or both, have also influenced my own imagination. Thranduil's looks (and the bit of side canon with the dragon fire and his face) and voice, but not his plot-line and in-story behaviour (as this doesn't go together with my take on canon), and particularly Hugo Weaving's voice and acting for Elrond, although not his looks at all (except perhaps his hands). He's an actor I loved before the movies already.
But I'm also writing Second Age, so movie canon doesn't really feature so far. This might be different when the new series comes out, which is one of the reasons I want to start publishing this WIP I'm working at since 2013... *hides* The story is about the refugees from Ost-in-Edhil, being led to safety by Elrond, and founding Rivendell.
The movies have indeed some considerable changes; some are ok like Haldir's role at Helm's klamm, some are not very fortunate or not well liked by many, like the whole Elrond & Aragorn plotline, and the Aragorn & Arwen issue, as this contradicts book canon considerably. But I love the movies no matter what, and just watch them - as well as the Hobbit movies - as very very elaborate transformative works, so any issues aren't problematic for me. I might bitch about them with some fandom buddies, but I don't mind watching them.

Edit: What is the Little Free Library? I've never heard of/about it before. I used to give my available books to bookcrossing, or rather "let them free" according to their ideas, but lately rather in on of the local public bookshelves for lack of other opportunities.

Similar idea to bookcrossing, but with an actual box to leave the books in. My involvement is strictly around putting one up and leaving books in there, but they also do fundraising around getting libraries into neighbourhoods where there aren't many other educational resources.

They're very popular in Toronto - I know of about a dozen in my neighbourhood just off the top of my head and I've run into them in doctor's offices and small retail spaces.

Day 9 did eventually make progress, and I think I may have backed my ready purposely into the main emotional beat for this story, which is good. That makes telling the rest easier.
