Write Every Day: Day 13

My last question was about books. Today's question is about blogs.

The advice in books can be timeless, but the advantage of blogs is that they are a lot more interactive - writers can respond to questions and give advice based on feedback from their readers. Some bloggers curate their comments to the point where they can be as informative as the blog itself.

I dip in and out of a ton of different blogs, but the two I tend to keep going back to are both on tumblr. HEY, writers does regular updates about all kinds of topics. Writing With Color is an amazing reference for writing about unfamiliar cultures without putting one's foot in it, with tons of links and an extensive tagging system.

Are there any blogs you recommend? Do you read blogs about writing? Do you read blogs by writers that aren't about writing?

Can't say I've ever read a writing blog, or a book about writing, but then I'm not trying to write anything for publication, just for fun.

Nov 13th - 1155 words, a 1k challenge fic and some editing on a fic for posting. Then I sat and knitted for a bit. Hoping to get an earlier night than last night. Stayed awake until after 2am finishing reading a novel, then starting another book, which I'm not sure if I like...

I am not much of a blog reader, though I make exceptions now and again. I do occasionally follow interesting tidbits from writer Twitter.

Today, I added 582 words to Chapter 20. To your question of yesterday, originally, my outline says I was going to have 28 chapters. Since I'm way beyond my outline on Chapter 20, I'm guessing it's going to be more than 28 chapters. *sighs* This is always the way of things with me. ;-)

14th: A few more edits to an exchange treat and posted, then retitled and fixed the final para. Hopefully it's done now. Finished and posted my Guardian fandom discussion post. Typed up a few notes for my Yuletide treat, but didn't really settle in to work on it. That's my plan for tomorrow. :-)

It's super woke which isn't the problem. It's the high handedness of which they tackle things and their way of illustrating how wrong every popular thing is by tearing it down to make their point (which often ARE good points) is like a cheesegrater on skin. You'll see at least one or two of their posts in my sunday links

I don't follow writing blogs, even if I do occasionally pick up posts by people because of the friends list that I have. I don't follow, mostly because this is a hobby for me rather than anything at all that I intend on turning into a career, and the most useful writing advice I tend to read and hear specifically says "do what works, fix what's broke, ignore the rest" Which usually includes "read the kind of books you want to publish so that you understand how they work, then write that kind of book in your own way."

Day 13's progress involved fixing some typographical issues and wrangling wording on an assignment so as to try and stay on both character and theme.

I think I just utterly forgot to write yesterday because I was so busy preparing for, delivering, and then relaxing after some stand-up comedy. Whoops! I am considering this a lapse but not an awful one since that was an extraordinary day, and I'm back today.

Thanks for the writing blog links! I'm POC, and I'm constantly fascinated by other people's takes on writing with colour and from different cultural perspectives.

I've had a pretty productive spurt of canon review and outlining, and 2,500 words later I think I'm 3/4 done with a first draft of my Yuletide assignment \\o//

One of the reasons I like that particular blog is because they will often have multiple people respond to a question, so they'll provide a variety of perspectives.
