So,
the_axel,
caspervonb,
electroyte and I are planning on driving to Convergence 9.
Tentative plans include stop-overs in Detroit and Chicago -- then swooping south-west and catching as much impressive scenery and cheesy roadside entertainment as possible.
Anybody en route want to put up a bunch of Canadians? Or have you got recommends for Things That Must Not Be Missed?

World's Largest McDonald's spans the turnpike between Tulsa, OK and Joplin, MO. Also features a shop carrying random McDonald's toys (like my small, inflatable Grimace).
Cool meteor crater off the 40 just east of Flagstaff, AZ. (Don't know if you'll be down that way, but it's pretty impressive.)
If you *do* go to Flagstaff, swing north to see the Grand Canyon. :D
There is some town in Colorado or western Kansas or someplace out that direction that has a headless chicken that is venerated with its own special weekend (complete with a parade!) each year. I forget what town it's in, but my friend was telling me about it, because he went to the festival last year.

And I've been working on putting together a local gargoyle tour. We don't have too many of them, but the ones we do have are truly fantastic.
