I've been working overtime for the last month and I am SO tired, y'all. But it will pay for things so I'm plugging away at it. And then I'm sodding off out of town for a week and I am very much looking forward to that.

Renovations are still in who-knows-what-the-fuck-is-going-on land. The surprise property survey did not, in fact, result in anything happening to accelerate the process. So who knows what the fuck that was about.

New Thursday night writing thing has been surprisingly productive. I think it's the first writing group I have ever participated in where we get together and actually do writing. And I don't hate it. I attribute most of this to a friend who is writing a novel and IT'S SO GOOD and he insists that the rest of us have to show our work as well so the pressure is on. Apparently I work better under friendly pressure, who knew.

And the other new thing I am doing is this:

It is without a doubt the nerdiest thing I have ever done in my life and I am having so much fun with it.

I think that's nerdier than anything I have done in my life too. And I had a Dr Who fanzine when I was 9.
:P

(I can't remember if I mentioned on my LJ what I thought of TWOT's first three episodes, but while I expected to hate watch the first episode, I didn't hate it and ended up watching the next two).

I just figured out how to play this, and if you're on the ONE-HOUR(???) trailer breakdown (yep, out-nerded) I just heard you and Axel speak for the first time ever - so... in 26 years?

I am in the uncanny valley. Your voice is pitched higher than I always imagined (with no accent I can pick) and Axel is way more English.

(TBF, I only listed for a few minutes, as I am not that invested, but I sent it to my friend, who is Very Much a fan)

Somebody else I know heard it and said, "You have a radio voice!"

There is definitely a weird 'podcast' voice effect in the world.

I don't have a lot of experience with podcasts, but I do find the host's voice sounds very similar to others.

Of course, from my time in radio, I know I automatically affected a radio voice.

If I were a conspiracy-minded chap, I might also suggest there's some sort of inbuilt processing going on in the app to 'smooth' things. Or it could be listener bias.

After I posted I listened to part of the first episode, and I did hear one almost 'aboot'. Thanks, Degrassi!

I'm sure it's a habit that's hard to break... without a silly accent.

To be fair, her voice sounded a little unfamiliar to me, too, and I've heard her speak a *lot*. So I think there's some subtle shifts in the recording.

I knew it!

Actually, I did a quick look around (and while it's been years since I've done actual audio processing, and that was on ancient equipment), I'd guess there's some EQ tweaking, compression and smoothing.

Big tech is probably stealing voice prints too - now I think about it.... :)
