seasonal forcast: gravity storms
Dec. 2nd, 2021 10:19 amWho (still) has two thumbs and fell down the stairs?
I don't even have being drunk as an excuse.

[NOTE 1] I'm fine. Couple of bruises. Nothing bends today in any way that it didn't bend yesterday.
[NOTE 2] Background explanation: I have nerve damage in my inner ear and every once in a while the nerve twitches and I go down. I haven't had any falls for a while and I guess I'm getting over confident.
[NOTE 3] Yoga is amazing physiotherapy for this
[NOTE 4] I FUCKING HATE YOGA

Date: 2021-12-02 04:28 pm (UTC)I hate that yoga is a solution to things, because it's always paired with the sort of advice that tells you not to feel bad about the chronic condition you have.
I'LL DO IT BUT I WON'T DIG IT.

I am sure.

Date: 2021-12-03 07:44 pm (UTC)OK I actually looked it up. Aerial yoga, aqua yoga, and "weed" yoga appear to be the hot new trends. I'm gonna put my "no" right here on all of them right up front.

Date: 2021-12-04 05:32 pm (UTC)That makes sense! So, okay, very specific info here: I have degeneration of my auditory/balance nerve on the L and both of my optic nerves. So, 1) ENT doctor has said neck and shoulder tension can make the auditory/balance nerve issues worse by pinching nerves, which is one way stress can exacerbate the problem. I've also read that poor circulation to those nerves can do the same. 2) Eye doctor is specifically keeping the pressure in my eyes low because my blood pressure is on the low side and we want to reduce impedance in the eyes in order to oxygenate the optic nerves with blood flow as much as possible. The other thing I've read all over the place is that getting into those head positions that suck is what we have to do to get the brain to get used to it and adapt. They put Sidney Crosby into some sort of whole-body orbital machine in order to do that. I told my ENT I wanted the PT Sidney Crosby had. (Right?) So that totally meshes with what you've got from your physiotherapists about getting upside-down. Helpful to compare notes.

Date: 2021-12-04 06:37 pm (UTC)Fun fact, you know those experiments they did in the 60s where they put prism glasses on people that made them see upside down and their brains eventually went, "OK this is how we live now" and they still saw upside down even when they took the glasses off? Apparently your vision will also do that if your brain tells you you're walking on a tilt for years at a time.

Date: 2021-12-05 04:21 pm (UTC)They are totally connected! It's why I can't drive on the highway or handle big box stores. Looking around rapidly at all the stuff triggers vertigo. This reminds me, too, apparently if your eyes are off kilter, it can also be one thing that contributes to dizziness. Once it's possible, I'm going to get the eye doctor to refer me to have a look at that bc I was born with strabismus in the R, which was visually corrected, but I wonder if it's still a little off.
Bodies are weird.
