Go to https://www.covidtests.gov/ and fill out the quick form -- all they need is your name, your mailing address, and -- if you want shipping updates -- your email address. "Orders will ship free starting in late January."

Awesome - thank you so much! Just this morning I was thinking I probably need to learn about the hows and wheres of COVID testing, with little one about to go back to in-person school after almost 2 years in online school and Omicron still going strong.

Meanwhile, here, you probably can't find them, and if you can they are probably marked up between 200-700%.

Because the government thinks its dangerous to give them out for free.

that is how it is here mostly - rapid tests cost money and have been very hard to find, although PCR testing is free IF you can get an appointment. The government has decided we can have four free rapid tests per household. So, if, say, 5 people live in your house, you can't even rapid test all of them once (and guidance says rapid tests really should be used twice a few days apart, as they are less sensitive and therefore have a higher false negative rate than PCR.) It's ridiculous but I'll still take what they send me.
