Welp, who has two thumbs and managed to twist their ankle on a piece of uneven sidewalk and go completely ass over teakettle. No major injuries, just some scraped up palms and a few bruises. And I lost my phone in the process, but a neighbour picked it up and dropped it off at the house.
Weirdly the side of my upper ribcage hurts? Maybe I jammed something under it when I landed? No idea. Guess I'll figure it out if I have a bruise there tomorrow.
***
I have a lot of plants in my office, both because it's the brightest spot in the house and also because it's one of the few spaces they are safe from the predations of the criminal mastermind Dr River Song. (Many of them are poisonous to cats) The plants make lots of babies as plants are prone to do, so I put the extras in my Little Free Library for neighbours to take.
Occasionally I get presents back. A couple of days ago somebody put a package of sunflower seeds in there along with some small clay starter pots. I tried planting sunflower seeds in the yard last time and the squirrels ate them all, so next time around I'll start them in the pots inside first.
I miss being able to dig around my yard this summer, but we're completely cut off from the back of the house until the kitchen reno is done. Next summer I will plant a kajillion tomato plants and I'll be in my happy place.

Date: 2022-08-13 02:22 am (UTC)My sunflowers get eaten by all kinds of guys. I have to protect mine with a 2-foot tube of chicken wire or plastic fence. (Trying to phase out the use of plastic fence, but it's cheaper.) Pots sound like a good option. Haven't tried it yet!

Not in this house.I can't keep anything alive indoors, much less propagate.
I fucking love sunflowers. I plant them every year or so, and for the weeks they flower they make me so happy. I didn't know you could start them in pots. I should try that. I think I missed plant season this year.

Date: 2022-08-13 01:08 pm (UTC)But how sweet to get something back in your Little Free Library! We're always having so many sunflower seedlings that we're removing them as weeds - we bird-feet all through the year, but often magpies drive the smaller birdies away and then throw out a large amount of the sunflower seeds, so the ground below the bird feeder is always a tapestry of seedligns. And then two of our cats like to snack on sunflower seeds, too, but don't digest them, so we have seedlings come up about everywhere... XD

Date: 2022-08-13 07:10 pm (UTC)You having to weed your sunflowers is hilarious given how much people complain about not being able to grow them.
