The shout around the clock strategy appeared to be what was needed to shake something loose. Bill is now sorted. (In theory. I don't entirely trust the company not to screw it up again, but the having-a-conversation part of fixing it has finally happened.)

House stuff continues. A truck showed up at our door and dropped five pallets of cinder blocks and bags of cement onto the sidewalk. Pallets and bags are now gone and we have two basement walls instead.

I had a brief conversation with the contractor about some of the other work this place needs - primarily the front porch, which is also falling off. It will be a lot cheaper to get the work done if we tack it onto this job while he's already here.

I did some number crunching and I think I can just do it. It would also massively help the curb appeal of the house, since eventually having to sell isn't entirely off the table.

So I will not be spending any money on so much as a bag of peanuts until this is all over. Just as well it's cold outside and I don't much feel like leaving the house anyway.
