28 – Salt Awareness Week (UK): The recommended intake for salt is 6g per day, pick a meal today and share how much salt there is in it.
29 – World Piano Day: have you ever taken piano lessons? What is your favourite piece of piano music or song?
30 – Virtual Vacation Day: if you could go away right now where would you go?
31 – Crayon Day: have you any fond memories of using crayons? What were your favourite colours?
April
1 – International Firewalk Day: Have you ever done this strange practice? Would you like to try it?
2 – Peanut Butter & Jelly (Jam) day: do you like this typical American sandwich? What flavour jelly (jam) do you favour?
3 – Fish Fingers and Custard Day: to celebrate Doctor Who’s strange culinary experiment this day was declared fish fingers and custard day. Would you ever try this? What odd combinations of food do you like?
4 – International Carrot Day: In your opinion, what's the best way to cook and eat carrots?
I find most fast & instant foods are really oversalted, but on the infrequent occasions where I crave fast food that's probably what I'm looking for. I have never taken piano lessons, and I don't have any favourite piano music, I think probably it's just not an instrument that really stands out for me. I would go some place with mountains. I played with crayons a lot as a kid and my favourite colours were purple and red. I have had the opportunity to firewalk - side effect of hanging out with pagans a lot - but always passed on it, mostly because I never really trusted that the people in charge knew what they were doing. I am not a peanut butter fan, and I don't really like sweet jellies but I have had some savory ones that were really good. I would eat fish fingers and custard if I was being paid to do so, but not otherwise. I like carrots the way my girlfriend cooks them.
5 – First Contact Day: As all Trekkies know, 5th April 2063 is the date that Zephram Cochrane (and Earth) first made contact with extraterrestrials (the Vulcans). Do you think we will ever make first contact with extra-terrestrial beings? If we do, do you think the knowledge that we aren't alone in the galaxy/universe would unite Terrans, or cause further divisions?
It's a really big universe, so there is definitely life out there, although I wouldn't lay any bets on intelligent life. As to whether or not we'll run into each other - there is also a whole lot of empty space and distance, so no bets on that either.
As for how humanity would react if it does happen - I have seen a number of shows and movies that claimed that people unite when faced with a common foe (the central deception in The Watchmen was based on this idea) but I have genuinely not seen that in my life.
So if aliens ever do land there will be people trying to kill them, people trying to mine them for information about how to make better weapons, people trying to figure out a way to sell tickets to meet them and people insisting that the whole thing is a conspiracy, wake up sheeple. And because humans are Like That, I guarantee that there will be people trying to fuck them.

I almost made it out of the house yesterday, but the TTC declined to cooperate and it was actually something where I wanted to show up on time.
Especially as public transit gets less and less reliable I really miss being able to cycle places. If my destination was within bicycle distance I used to know exactly how long it took me to get there.

The Old Man's last hospitalization finally got him bumped up the list to see a specialist. He got his initial referral March of last year, but the specialist had a two year waiting list and apparently he's the only one who does this particular work. So we're doing a video interview with him - I say "we" because the Old Man gets very anxious and it often takes several explanations for him to understand questions and directives when he's flustered. So he always wants me to be there, even for a video call.
You know, people have been joking as long as I've been alive that we have the best educated taxi drivers in the world, because people are allowed to immigrate based on skills we need and then we don't let them actually work in their field. I used to work with doctors and nurses in the blood bank, packing boxes. Most of them were going to night school on their own dime. I get that figuring out how to share accreditation between different countries is difficult, but for fuck sake, we've had decades to figure it out.
Or shit, if we need doctors, the government pays your tab if you graduate and keeps doing that until we have enough. That would help maybe?

Internet is still being a pain in the ass. On Monday somebody shows up from a different company to set up a brand new service. That's honestly why I haven't been online much lately, for every 7 hours I have to put in at work every day there's an extra two hours spent rebooting and logging back in. It's been driving me spare and it's sucking up the time I normally use to catch up on anything else. And going into the office means dealing with the Dufferin bus. (D used to call that bus "the honey badger" because it just don't care.)
I've been writing again though, because when the connection goes down for the 123rd time in the day and I can't be arsed to haul my knees down the stairs to reboot I can just scribble a few sentences down instead. On the other tentacle, it means I have not been doing my usual yoga because I do those by following along with youtube, and wow does that ever not go well when you can't keep an internet connection alive.
Hopefully tomorrow I will rejoin the 21st century and that's one thing checked off my list.
