It snowed today. It's supposed to be 19 tomorrow. WTF Toronto, go home you're drunk.

The new hot water tank was installed yesterday. It's very shiny and not rusty. More importantly, I was able to take a shower where the water stayed hot right up until the very end. Luxury!

I had a moment of concern when I asked the installers where they had put the old tank. "Oh it's gone to the scrapyard." Uh, it was a rental? And they might want it back? But I called the company that owned it and when they realized how old it was they went yeah, fair enough. So that's sorted.

Ex-housemate was in town for a couple of days dealing with medical stuff, so they came by today. They took away as much of their stuff as would fit in a backpack. They also dropped off a switch that lets me run multiple computers through a single monitor/keyboard/mouse setup, so that means I can pack away the jury-rigged setup I had on my desk for switching between my work and personal systems AND I can now use the unneeded peripherals to more comfortably set up streaming to my television. This is all somewhat self-indulgent compared to the rest of the work that needs to be done in the house, but I had a folding table set up behind my chair so I could switch back and forth between the computer that has all my receipts and the old Windows box that was the only one that could read my old tax forms so I could make sure everything was filed correctly and now I don't have to do that.

Now that I think about it, that also means I can play games again if I want to! I might make another attempt at WoW - the one time I tried I bounced off the racism pretty hard, but if I can find a start point that has slightly less of that maybe I can get to a level where some of friends are playing. (Insert your faction / server / guild recommendations here.)

The venerable Lord Brock was so happy to see the ex-housemate that he howled like an air-raid siren for an hour straight. I am convinced that cat is broken.

I have no idea what to believe about tomorrow's weather. Just have to cross my fingers and hope the outfit I planned for the office tomorrow will work. My ankles hate the cold, so if they're lying to us I'm going to suffer.

It was! Which is good, because there was a trespasser on the track on the TTC on the way home and I had to walk 2 subway stops uphill to get home. Yay?

I tried to get back into WoW last summer. Spent about two months playing and then it just started feeling really repetitive. I didn’t find the quests had a whole lot of variety.

I’m playing Baldur’s Gate 3 now and thoroughly enjoying it, so if you haven’t played it before, consider looking into it. I haven’t played AD&D with people in over 25 years but it’s really reminded me of how much silly fun that can be. It’s been making me laugh out loud on a regular basis with the dialogue options.

I remember when, at the old house, our water heater died and we upgraded from a 40 gallon to a 50 gallon one for the replacement. It felt like a whole new world opened up for us. "Hot water until the end of the shower? it can't be done! It's impossible!" It was very possible and amazing. :)

I'm very, very tempted to join you in WoW, but I've never played... and I know myself all too well, which makes me concerned. I lost most of '93 and '94 to MUDs (well, and alt.gothic). I get _really_ into RPGs when I play them. I picked up Everquest again a few years ago for the first time in decades and I started feeling those feelings again. If I could learn to play WoW in moderation, I might be into it. :)

Here, we have gone from HOT to rain to I have my winter clothes on, to 30C tomorrow.
Could there be some climate fuckery?

How long, or short, are your showers?

Also, your HOT WATER SYSTEM was a RENTAL? What in the heck?

I don't take long showers. I wash my hair once a week which is the most time-intenstive part, but usually I'm rinse, soap, rinse, I'm done.

Renting water tanks is the norm in Ontario for some reason. It comes with free maintenance so most people just roll with it, but when I did the math I can replace it every four years for the sane price.

Is it gas or electric?
I've only ever had gas instantaneous, but in 25 years I've maybe had to replace one. They reckon you should get 10 years out of 'em, more if you replace the sacrificial anode.
I assume storage (gas or electrical) would have a similar life.
