Bed by 4 last night and up for 7 this morning. That makes a total of... *counts on fingers*... 17 hours of sleep since Wednesday. Go me.

I seem to spend an inordinate amount of time bitching in here about lack of sleep. This working two jobs shit is for the birds. Hell, it's for anybody. Just as long as it's for somebody other than me.

And tonight I have to go to some retarded schmooze-fest. Or at the very least retarded for me to go to, since tiredness makes me irritable and taciturn. The very opposite of schmoozing. It also makes me dizzy, and I'm convinced that disaster will strike if I go. I've spent the entire weekend around cameras and media drones without so much as bumping into a chair, I have just got to be heading into a faceplant of epic proportions.

Ah, bitch, bitch, bitch. In spite of my crustiness, it was a good weekend. Interesting things are now percolating through my brainpan.

And I got to spend lots of plotting/venting/shit-shooting time with [livejournal.com profile] caspervonb. I have to do that more often. Time spent hanging out with the Super Admiral always recharges my batteries.

Right then. We have a hill to take.

Other than a showcase last night that I HAD to attend because a band we work with was playing (Vampire Beach Babes) I've actually stayed away from the NXNE this year. I'm not impressed with the organization of these events anymore.

Our biggest complaint was that absolutely no thought whatsoever had gone into how they had arranged the line-ups. People who are jumping around for the glam band aren't going to stick around for the Oasis clone, and the guys who would have loved that heavy metal act probably already left when the reggae band was on the stage.

So perfectly decent bands would often end up playing their hearts out to an empty rooms simply because they had a shite slot. It was insulting. Especially given that some of them had travelled an pretty long way to do it.

My biggest problem with things is there lack of support for online magazines. Like I can cover the NXNE properly with two passes, while still holding any sort of professionalism.

I have one editorial and one photo pass....which means I can cover maximum 5 bands per night if I'm lucky. This in my opinion is worthless and I'd rather not even provide coverage in the first place.

Why should I promote an event that continues to discourage the online movement? I got the same thing from CMW this year...but if I went down to cover CMJ or something similar in the US I could've gotten around 5-10 passes if I wanted to. Canada is one of the most connected nations but we're light years behind in how we treat online media.
