June
28 – International Body Piercing Day: Do you have any piercings? That aren't your ears?
29 – Camera Day: Do you still own and use an actual camera? If you've mostly or completely transitioned from using a real camera to just using a phone camera, do you find you take more photos now than you did before?
30 – Social Media Day: In its short life, social media has redefined how people interact, communicate, and share with family, friends, and the world – in both good ways and bad. What social media do you use? Do you occasionally take breaks from social media? Do you have any ideas on what might improve the social media experience for most?
July
1 – Second Half of the Year Day: How would you rate the first half of this year? Are there things you could change going forward to make the second half of the year better?
2 – I Forgot Day: Are you forgetful? Do you have trouble remembering holidays, anniversaries, birthdays, doctors' appointments, etc.? Do you have any tricks or aids to help you remember important dates?
3 – International Plastic Bag Free Day: Some localities are banning the use of plastic bags or charging a small amount for each one used. Is this an initiative where you live? Have you taken steps to reduce or eliminate the number of plastic bags that you use? Is there something for which you use plastic bags that you can't think of anything else that you could use for that purpose?
4 – Alice in Wonderland Day: Have you read Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and/or Through the Looking Glass? What about the various film adaptations -- have you seen any of those?
5 – Mechanical Pencil Day: Mechanical pencils are inherently superior to regular pencils if only for one reason: you don't have to sharpen them. Do you, or did you, use mechanical pencils at school or on the job, or just out of personal preference?
6 – Fried Chicken Day: Do you like fried chicken? Do you make your own, or do you prefer take-out? What's your favourite place to get fried chicken?
7 – Tell the Truth Day: What would happen if everyone on earth spoke only the 100% truth today -- no sugar-coating or lying by omission?
28 - I have two holes in my nose that I haven't worn jewellery in for... over a decade at this point, so they've probably closed up. I also have a couple of labia piercings but I lost the ring from one like the day before the pandemic started and couldn't replace it during lockdown. And now that restrictions are over I haven't gotten around to doing anything about it. 29 - I have a digital camera. Old as it is, it still takes better pictures than my phone. 30 - I'm mainly here on Dreamwidth, I've been using Discord more lately mostly due to the podcast, I read Tumblr more than I post, keep Zuckerberg mainly for the group messaging, I occasionally look in on Musk site and Mastadon but not on anything like a regular basis. My girlfriend got me hooked on Am I The Asshole by relating stories like it was her favourite soap opera, so now I read Reddit occasionally. Hrm, I have a pillowfort account too, I should look at that one once in a while.
1 - I WOULD LIKE FOR THE RENOVATIONS TO BE FUCKING DONE NOW PLEASE. 2 - I am hopeless with dates. So bad. I can know a number but for some reason the distance between that number and now just seems to slide off my brain. I have multiple calendars going to try and surmount this problem, so I am mostly able to keep up on deadlines and appointments, but things like birthdays just... kinda happen. 3 - Stores here have gone plastic bag free. We have tons of re-usable bags in the house and we just buy boxes of bags for things like lining the litterboxes. 4 - Many years ago. I've seen the animations and I've been to a couple of plays. 5 - Mechanical pencils break too easily. 6 - Love fried chicken. Unfortunately my favourite place for eating it closed down a few years ago. 7 - It would be fine as long as it did not coincide with "unable to keep that shit to yourself day".
8 – SCUD Day: SCUD Day stands for "Savor the Comic, Unplug the Drama" Day, and encourages those of us whose lives might have a touch too much drama to step back, relax, and enjoy the funnier side of life. Is there too much drama in your life right now? Even if there isn't, what would you do to turn the drama down a bit and enjoy a good laugh instead
Drama is an interesting concept. I got yelled at once for "starting drama" on some mailing list, and I remember saying back, "This isn't me starting drama. This is me starting a fight." To me drama is talking about people behind their back, or forcing people to take sides over disagreements. Manipulation, behind-the-scenes, shit. Just... yelling at people is the opposite of drama.
But what do I know. I hang out with goths.

OF COURSE the WoT Season 2 trailer drops right before the ONLY weekend I'm out of town. For Fuck Sake Amazon.

A friend has been inviting me to the women & non-binary hour at the gym around the corner from my house and this past weekend I finally had time to go. I enjoyed it a lot - doing something different and using different muscles for a change. And the person running the class was awesome. It was a small room but the class was only a dozen people and they have an open door in the back so it was very easy for me to step outside when I wanted to take a breath without my mask on.
It's on Sundays which is usually busy for me, but I'd like to go back. I had actual sore muscles the next day.

I was taking the streetcar somewhere last week with the housemate and they made a comment about the fact that my balance is so much better because I can now walk down the aisle while the vehicle is in motion. And it's true, I tend not to notice because change happens so slowly, but my balance is better. The hikes are actually turning out to be really good physio for that, because although the trails are packed dirt and so the footing is pretty solid, they are rarely level and there are often tree roots and patches of gravel so my brain is constantly having to adjust to the uneven surface. I have to concentrate pretty hard on my footing while I'm walking so it's training my brain every time I do it.

The flying insects invaded my house for about a month in June because all the open walls meant we had no way to keep them out. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the flies have pretty much disappeared. What we have instead is SO MANY cobwebs. And more going up every day, I literally have to check the dishes before I put food in them because somebody might have built a trap in there in the few hours between carrying the washed dishes downstairs and deciding to make breakfast.
We've agreed that the cobwebs are a better option, so we're just going to roll with it for now. It is kind of hilarious because we have so many boxes and shelves stacked around the edges of the room that it's a lot like living in a forest in that you have to watch out for face-height spider webs when you walk through the living room in the dark.

Date: 2023-07-20 02:56 am (UTC)My one caveat about the class it that it was all femme presenting or AFAB. (There has to be a better way to phrase that.) I'm not sure if that's because transmasc or masculine presenting NB people are discouraged or it just happened to be who showed up for the class that day. They do have a queer class on Tuesdays as well, so I might try that one out one day.

Date: 2023-07-20 11:10 am (UTC)I have no idea how to think about this!
we just buy boxes of bags for things like lining the litterboxes.
Wait... this is BRILLIANT!
Love fried chicken. Unfortunately my favourite place for eating it closed down a few years ago.
You can make it at home! Worst it. Not the same.
And it's true, I tend not to notice because change happens so slowly, but my balance is better.
All people do, but yay for housemate noticing *and* saying something!
We've agreed that the cobwebs are a better option, so we're just going to roll with it for now.
I heard some wisdom that spiders will rebuild webs were bugs are, so this is a good idea.
I leave mine, and I LOATHE bugs.
HOW is this my life?
Hold on... let me find my Talking Heads LP....

Date: 2023-07-20 01:37 pm (UTC)We do have the odd spider that bites - not particularly dangerous unless one is allergic - but they build the more symmetrical webs and I've learned what they look like. The common house spiders that build the messy cobwebs are completely docile. They are, however, honkin' huge and so it can be startling to run into one in the bathroom when you aren't expecting it.
