August
1 – World Wide Web Day: Think about how much of what you do each day you do online. If the internet disappeared tomorrow, how would that impact your life? How would you have to start doing things differently (or go back to a pre-internet way of doing things)?
2 – Colouring Book Day: Were colouring books something you enjoyed as a child? Adult colouring is now a huge trend. Do you do colouring as an adult, or would you consider engaging in this activity?
3 – Clean Your Floors Day: How often do you clean your floors? Do you have to deal with different types of flooring (carpeting in some rooms, hardwood, tiles, linoleum in others)? Do you use a regular vacuum cleaner or a robovac, or both? Have you ever gotten down on your hands and knees and actually scrubbed a floor – the whole floor, not just one stubborn stain?
4 – Chocolate Chip Cookie Day: Are you a fan of chocolate chip cookies? Are you a chocolate chip cookie traditionalist, or do you like variations -- with nuts, or different types of chocolate, etc.? Do you have a favourite brand, or do you buy them from a bakery? Do you make your own? Will you share your favourite recipe?
5 – Blogger Day: This day was created to celebrate Blogger, one of the oldest blogging sites. Did you ever have a blog on Blogger? What about on any other blogging sites (aside from Dreamwidth/LiveJournal), e.g. WordPress? Have you ever hosted a blog on your own webspace?
6 – Friendship Day: Do friendships change over time? Is friendship important to you? What is your definition of a good friend? Do you think you're a good friend?
7 – International Clown Week: The first full week of August is International Clown Week: True or False -- clowns are scary and should not be celebrated.
8 – International Cat Day: Are you a cat person? Have you ever had, or do you have, cats as pets? Do you have a favourite breed of cat?
9 – Book Lovers Day: Do you love books? Have you always been a reader? Did your parents read to you when you were young? What were some of your favourite books or authors as a child? How has your taste in books evolved over time?
10 – Duran Duran Appreciation Day: Do you appreciate Duran Duran – a band who pushed the limits of acceptable music video content and helped change the face of new wave music in the 1980s? Do you have a fave Duran Duran song or album?
11 – Play in the Sand Day: As a child, did you enjoy playing in the sand – either at the beach, or in a sandbox? Did you build sandcastles? As an adult, is this something that still appeals to you?
12 – Garage Sale Day (or Boot Sale, in the UK): Do you regularly, or occasionally, check out garage sales in your area? Have you ever organized one yourself, or in conjunction with some neighbours?
13 – International Lefthanders Day: Are you, or is anyone close to you lefthanded? Do you know anyone who, as a natural leftie, was forced to learn to use their right hand, either by their parents, or at school?
14 – Bargain Hunting Week: Do you make a point of trying to find the best deals when you need to buy something? What is one of the best bargains you've ever come across?
15 – Relaxation Day: What are some of your favourite ways to relax?
16 – Elvis Week: Are you, or were you, an Elvis Presley fan?
17 – Thrift Shop Day: Do you regularly, or even occasionally, shop at thrift shops? Do you donate to them? What was one of your best or favourite thrift shop finds?
18 – Serendipity Day: Serendipity is an unplanned fortunate discovery. Have you ever experienced a particularly serendipitous moment?
19 – Break the Monotony Day: There’s a certain security in a steady schedule, but too much of the same thing gets you stuck in a rut and the monotony can just plain kill you. When was the last time you took a day to do something spontaneous?
20 – Radio Day: Do you still listen to the radio? Do you have an actual radio, or do you listen to satellite or streaming radio? What about talk radio -- are you a fan?
21 – Poet's Day: Do you write poetry? Do you even like poetry? Do you have a favourite poet or poem?
22 – World Plant Milk Day: Almond milk, oat milk, soy milk... Do you use plant-based milk rather than dairy milk? If yes, do you use it instead of dairy in everything (tea/coffee, baking, cereal, etc.) or only in specific instances? Have you tried various types of plant milk? Do you have a favourite?
23 – Ride the Wind Day: Have you ever been sky-diving? What about hang-gliding? If not, would you ever try either (both) of those activities? What about something tamer, such as kite-flying or sailing?
24 – International Strange Music Day: What is the oddest music you've ever listened to?
25 – Kiss and Make Up Day: Is there anyone with whom you have a long-standing argument or conflict? What would it take to resolve the matter? If you're currently at peace with everyone in your life, have you ever had a disagreement with someone that lasted more than a few hours/days?
26 – Toilet Paper Day: This is a day we can all get our behinds behind! Did you know that toilet paper began its wide use in China by the 6th century? And by the 14th century, the Chinese had made advancements in toilet care, producing packages of special paper people could use in their wiping endeavors. In fact, it is estimated that the culture produced at least 10 million packages of toilet paper each year! So enquiring minds want to know -- do you hang your toilet paper so the paper hangs over or under? Do you have a favourite brand? Do you seek out more eco-friendly types of toilet paper, e.g. bamboo toilet paper or toilet paper made from recycled fiber?
27 – Just Because Day: This day is meant to celebrate lazy afternoons at the beach, taking time off and doing whatever you want or feel like in the moment. So what will you do just because? Or what would you like to do just because if you can't actually do any just-becausing today?
28 – Crackers Over the Keyboard Day: Do you eat at your computer? Do you regularly clean (or try to clean) your keyboard? Have you ever had any mishaps while attempting to clean your keyboard?
29 – Lemon Juice Day: Is lemon juice a staple in your kitchen? Do you use it for non-culinary purposes? Do you have a favourite lemon-flavoured food or beverage?
30 – Beach Day: Do you like going to the beach? When was the last time you were seaside?
31 – We Love Memoirs Day: Do you?

1 – I would have to start working onsite again and honestly I don't know how I would keep up if I added commuting back to my day. Sleep less I guess. Drink more. Wander in front of a bus one day.
2 – Like it when I was a kid, haven't done it as an adult. Could be fun.
3 – I wash my floors about once a week, and by "my" I mean the top floor where I live. I've abandoned the rest of the house for now, but I'm sure there will be scrubbing when I get access to it again.
4 – I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I do like chocolate chip. I don't eat them often enough to have favourites.
5 – Well I'm here - and I used to have Livejournal. Thought about moving to wordpress, but that sounds like work.
6 - I'm a shit one right now because I'm so wrapped up in my own problems with almost no spoons for anything else.
7 – Clowns are scary and should be celebrated for exactly that reason.
8 - I have a cat. I think once he's gone I will take a break from having pets, watching them age is really hard.
9 – I devoured books when I was a kid and I wish I was able to read as much as I used to. (This is starting to become a refrain.)
10 – I'm not sure they really pushed boundaries more than anybody else who was making videos in those days. They're fine, I don't seek out their music but I also won't avoid it.
11 – I think I did when I was a kid? Can't say it's something I still do.
12 – My neighbourhood has a big garage day and street party every year. I occasionally participate.
13 – The housemate is a lefty. I actually started out using my left hand when I started school and switched over really easily when I was told to use my right. I'm a bit sad I didn't end up ambidextrous.
14 – Gonna have to start!
15 – Video games.
16 – Nope.
17 – I do both. I bought my pyjamas at the local thrift shop. Last thing we got was a coffee maker and it was shit we gave it back.
18 – I'm sure? Can't think of anything off the top of my head though.
19 – I was going to go on a hike on Wednesday but it was cancelled - so I'm thinking I might just take a day head down to the lake and walk around. (I don't know if it counts as spontaneous if I'm planning ahead, but it's not what I normally do)
20 – Rarely.
21 – I don't like most poetry. There are rare exceptions.
22 – Oat milk in my coffee.
23 – I have not. I am terrified of heights.
24 – A compilation of songs found on phones that were lost in the desert.
25 – I tend to go one of two ways, if I want to keep the person in my life I just go shout at them and get it over with. If I don't I just walk away and don't think about them ever again.
26 – I legitimately have never understood why anybody gives two shits about how their toilet paper hangs.
27 – Go for a walk I guess.
28 – I do eat at my desk and yes I have lost a few keyboards that way. On a regular basis I will turn over my keyboard and give it a good shake.
29 – I throw lemon juice in my humus. I have one of those machines that makes your water fizzy, and I put a tiny bit of lemon or lime juice in that.
30 – I'm not a fan of the beach. I burn like you would not believe.
31 – I read them occasionally, wouldn't say they are my favourite genre.

I feel like I kinda fell off the planet for a few weeks there. I mean... I was busy but I'm always busy. I think sometimes I just need to go sit in a corner and feel sorry for myself about it before I can actually get down to work.

sigh. So this is me, getting back to work.

Toronto went from being 30 degrees for the first week of October to dropping about 20 degrees overnight. My office is freezing. I normally go around in bare feet up here, but I'm not acclimatized to the temperature yet, so it's sweaters and woolly socks and hot tea for me.

***

Kitchen has been fully insulated, dry-walled & mudded. Sanding is supposed to start this week. Mental note: throw some sheets over the electronics in the morning. They said they would hang some extra plastic but that shit gets everywhere.

As for the basement, I have no fucking idea. That pile of concrete on my front lawn that I posted on (checks notes) September 4 finally left this past Thursday. And apparently the mason couldn't come in until that was out of his way first.

The builder said he'd be back on Wednesday and would take the time to talk to me about what's going on. Honestly, my biggest complaint about this guy is his lack of communication. If he said up front "doing this part is going to tack on an extra six months" I would have made very different choices.

And he's going back under the knife in November and will be off work for two months after that. So he has a month to get the basement done if it's going to be finished before the housemate moves out and I have absolutely no reason to believe he's going to be able to pull that off.

*makes stressed noises*

This fucking house.

Took the Old Man to the pub for Thanksgiving. I wanted to find a nice restaurant, but wanting something wheelchair accessible, and either close by or transit accessible, and with either a heated patio or adequate ventilation - well, I might have been able to find something given time, but when he said he'd be just fine at the pub I just went with it.

"The pub" in this case is a place across the street that is huge, usually almost empty, has excellent ventilation (mostly it's a very old building with high ceilings & big garage-door windows so it's drafty as hell) and the staff are incredibly sweet to him. So fuck it. Pub it is. They have good beer, good food, and lots of both. He was entirely happy with it.

I know he's going to want to do the same thing for Xmas, so we'll see where the numbers are at.

Also waiting for Ontario Health to start jabbing people with the new booster. It's supposed to be available at the end of the month. Yes I know everybody else has had it for ages, but live in Doug Ford's province.

Think the flu shot is out now at least, maybe I'll get that out of the way first.

I legitimately don't know if your booster is one ahead of me, or not.

I'm due later this year (?) assuming we're on a six monthly cycle... but it's hard to know.
Hard to accept it's just endless boosters too.

Also waiting for Ontario Health to start jabbing people with the new booster. It's supposed to be available at the end of the month.

Apparently, some of the City of Toronto clinics on Friday were doing anyone who walked in for a shot. That included the North York clinic and the one downtown. Not advertised, of course, but a couple of people posted about this on Bluesky (one's a doctor). So I don't know if they'll take walk-ins any day that they're open, or if it was just a Friday thing. I've got the feeling that there's not much demand amongst the priority groups so walk-ins are fine. So what I'm saying is, you can't officially book a shot yet, but you still might be able to get one. I may go for a walk on my lunch hour tomorrow to see if I can get jabbed (the clinics are closed on Mondays).

Check out Shoppers. The one near me got it in and didn't announce it because they're not officially supposed to start until the end of the month. Also TPH has it.

Can confirm that it's available at some Shoppers. I learned this during an elevator conversation with a neighbour who had just gotten his booster. (I believe that one's previous shot must have been at least six months ago?)

My friend texted me and said they had some at the local Shoppers and indeed, when I went, they'd gotten them two hours earlier.

Hello!

OMFG that fucking house.

Good luck finding the jab. We're all due soon, too. I'm coordinating in three cities at the moment. :|

22. I just discovered the art of putting barista oat milk in my tea — yum.

I just use DW to feel sorry for myself. It works. Lots of word count!
