[livejournal.com profile] exsanguinated, [livejournal.com profile] electrolyte and [livejournal.com profile] caspervonb safely ensconsed in various new digs.

*whew*

After [livejournal.com profile] the_axel and my day-of-massive-moving the Saturday before, (and [livejournal.com profile] ferretboi's much more manageable relocation the Saturday before that) I think I've had my share of hauling boxes for a while. Although I certainly can't bitch about the resulting new roominess I'm seeing in the pantal area.

([livejournal.com profile] elixxir and [livejournal.com profile] emulsional, that does not mean you get out of asking if you need help sooner rather than later.

And [livejournal.com profile] 2ndaryairplane some time after that, and maybe even [livejournal.com profile] the_other_j after that...

Fuck economic indicators. The shuffle into bigger, brighter nicer digs is the real signal that the Toronto housing market has just opened up. And with everybody moving into the [livejournal.com profile] parkdale area, it's only a matter of time before Casperia declares it's independance.

The place where I dropped off the U-haul last night was right next to the railroad tracks, so I experimented with walking home along the rails. They really do lead me right to my backyard.

It's an interesting take on the city that you don't otherwise get to see much of. Back doors open into factorys full of screeching machines, abandoned lots, walls covered in elabourate graffiti. I passed under a bridge that showed signs of recent occupation. Junk yard dogs howled at me from behind high metal fences and every sound echoed along the long open corridor.

Next time I'll wear better shoes though, and long pants -- the only place to walk was either on the heavy gravel bed the rails lie on, or in high grass full of sharp spiney plants.

Now I'm fucking off to Shaw with [livejournal.com profile] bcholmes. Holy crap, have I ever been looking forward to doing a couple of days of no work at all.

Well no work except for the whole straightening out the flights issue over the phone.

I think you should just kidnap [livejournal.com profile] elixxir and lock her in your attic.

Railroad Tracks

My problem with walking along railroad tracks has always been the spacing of the ties. Too far apart to take them two at a time, and too close together to take one at a time so that you have to go in awkward little hops and half-steps. And walking on the gravel is just uncomfortable 'cause it's too shifty. And of course in Colorado where I did most of my track walking it was a dry climate so everything had all sorts of nasty little spines and pickers of the sort that'd get caught even if heavy jeans and work their way through.

No point to this comment, actually. You just spurred some interesting memories. :)

one of the main methods of transportation on Moscow is electric railways and seeing the cities underbelly [garbage piles, shit ridden fences, etc] day in day out has turned me off completely to otherwise quite grotesquely beautiful city.

please note:
i am staying away from the parkdale area for the time being so that i may be the international ambassador between toronto and casperia, and should any tension arise i will act as a peace officer with eyelashes to bat towards any unwelcomes who infringe on casperia.

you know how to get a hold of me once you need me. meanwhile i'll be on the look out in rotating shifts now that i am posted on king st.

Cool. I'm all for new cool people coming to live here. (Looks like we have a few friends in common.)

The Canadian Immigration website is here (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.html).

There is a quiz you can take to find out if you qualify simply on your work experience. It starts here (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/assess/Education.asp) -- 75 points is a sure thing. (Immigrating to the Canada is a lot simpler than other countries -- there are very clear requirements and you either have enough points to get in or you don't.)

Of course the easiest way is to marry a Canadian. :-)
