As of yesterday, we have a toilet. Yay!

As of tomorrow, we will have a shower again too. By the way, never never ever let me get my hands on a caulking gun. Seriously bad news.

Next steps, patching the hole in the wall next to the tub, covering the sections of the wall we've already patched with something reasonably waterproof, sanding off the hanging strips of paint that fall in my hair when I'm having a shower and covering the whole shebang with moisture-resistant paint, then putting down fresh lino on the floor, and then finally installing the sink.

I can stop showering with bugs. The sink will stop sliding off the wall. The wall will stop sliding off the wall.

It will be great.

In other news, next weekend [livejournal.com profile] disastrid and I will be driving a van containing 9 people (maybe more) under the age of 17 to New York City to see Little Steven's Underground Garage Festival. Every person I tell about this trip gives me the saucer eyes and says, "How did you manage to get yourself into that."

Silly people. I'm looking forward to it. It's going to be a riot.

Er... figuratively speaking of course.

The walls have been sagging, so the sink was gradually falling off. And everything leaks. It didn't rain while you guys were here, so it wasn't as obvious.

Getting across the border requires signed and notarized documents from all the parents. Canada and the US came up with some strick policies for travelling with minors because of the problem of non-custodial parents kidnapping kids, and once they were in a different country they couldn't be touched. I fully expect we will be pulled over.

Congrats on the progress of the home 'improvement' (creation?) project!

As for the vanful of kids and NYC - hellsyeah! I love doing things with youngers - reminds me of the sheer pleasure that can be found in such things.

Enjoy!

Oh, me too. They haven't gotten jaded yet, so everything is a big deal.

Which is bloody exhausting over time, but incredibly energizing in short doses. *grin*

To be honest, I've thought about it and I think it would be a bad idea.

I think it is something that I could potentially do part-time or on a volunteer basis. But as a fulltime job it wouldn't work. I'm too introverted to work with humans as the focus of my job. And a lot of the kids would be going through stuff that I anticipate would be really heavily triggering for me.

Besides, I would never be able to remember not to swear.

Wishing you luck on the bathroom.

Paul is supposed to be replacing our sink and wall mirror today. He was going to do it yesterday but the bathroom was such a tip he wasn't sure he could work around it.

So I cleaned out everything this morning, so he better do it. :P I've been living with the boxes of the sink and medicine cabinet in the office for weeks now. I'd love the chance to no longer trip over them.

NYC sounds like fun. I miss having 17-year-olds to cart around. Most of the kids I know in my neighborhood are just a little to young yet to have fun with, but give them a few years and this should be a riot.
