This week I got x-rayed. Today I got the results. Final report; there is no permanent damage or degeneration in my spine. That means all the pain and mobility issues I am having are in the muscles and local nerves. That means they are repairable. I will get better. I will not be spending the rest of my life feeling like somebody is sneaking up behind me and stabbing me with rusty coat hangers.

Ladies and Gentlemen, break out the fucking champaign.

In other news, the food box this week gave me a three-pound yam. I'm thinking of stuffing it and cooking it in the turkey pan, just for old time's sake.

Excellent news! You must be so relieved.

So what's next? More chiro? Physio? Acupuncture?

Would restorative yoga help, or is it too soon for that? How about swimming?

All of the above.

Yoga probably would be very helpful. One all the reasons I haven't been doing it up until now finally go away.

kung fu

Or tai chi specifically. That's what my old sifu did when he had a 4" piece of steel go through his lower back as a result of a motorcycle accident. The doctors said he would never walk properly without assistnce.

He said "fuck that" and started doing tai chi, little by little, day by day. Worked his way up to Bagua Zhang. When I met him, he was 46, 15 years had past since that motorcycle accident and he was doing butterfly kicks all over the place. Not to mention he can do chinese splits too!

I like swimming. I used to get good results with accupuncture, and with electrostim, but you have to keep doing it. I used to have a terrible back from wrestling and later from working night crew at Jewel. Kung fu helped immensely, especially the stance drills. It helped me to alter my posture so that I unconsciously/instinctively put less strain on my back. Doing the horse stance against the wall is what did it.

Anyway, Congrats on the good news!

One of the big reasons I have get to get a new job is so I can have a schedule that lets me do regular classes again. I had to drop out of Tae Kwon Do because I couldn't commit to coming to class every week.

I can try doing the horse stances on my own though - and I might see if the local library has a yoga or pilates video.

Fantastic news. It's been a strangely good medical news week - I'm HIV-free, my cat's kidneys are not shutting down, you still have a functional skeleton. Huzzah.
