My spam intake has exploded this week. For some reason this week's fashion is cartoons. Most of them badly drawn Simpsons rip-offs in pornographic poses. Ew.

I went through a period a couple of weeks ago of getting tons of emails with worms attached. Annoying, but I have a really good virus detector so they were ultimately harmless. The deluge eventually faded out and I got a couple of weeks of peace. Only they're back, and now the email claimed to be from the FBI investigating me because my computer had been logged entering "illegal" sites.

I gotta wonder if this is an effective technique. Given how many family members forward me instructions not to sniff perfume in parking lots or flash my headlights at cars driving without lights in the dark, I expect it works for them pretty well. I also spent some micro-seconds trying to decide what might constitute an illegal website, but then I decided it must be referring to the links that [livejournal.com profile] mr_sharkey keeps sending me.

If well-read refers to books, what is the equivelent term used in reference to movies? Well-viewed? That doesn't sound right.

Obviously I'm not going to win Nanowrimo this year. I might hit the halfway point by midnight tomorrow. On the plus side, this is more than five times what I managed last year.

I think my mistake was doing the editing as I went along. Next year I'll write in November and post in December. I'm going to finish editing and posting the bits I've written so far, but I'm debating if I want to keep this project going into December, jsut to get it finished. (I haven't decided what point consitutes "finished" yet.)

Geek code words for what you've been seeing lately is a fresh outbreak of a W32.Sober worm. It sends spam with forged return addresses as well as replicating itself. I've gotten about fifty "Sorry, we couldn't deliver your mail to this nonexistant user" message from other people's poorly-configured mail servers this week.

Avast has been brilliant for killing them. I just have to figure out how to get it to do it quietly. (It's default setting seems to be to ask me to authorize each deletion.)

For what it's worth, I vote that you keep the project going into December and beyond if it takes that. I'm thoroughly enjoying reading it all.

I've loved reading what your Nano. I vote that you continue writing it, but you don't have to continue everyday until Dec.. You can take break and continue it on another month.

I keep getting stuff with the subject line "press release" or "top news" or similar. The sender name is always a random word. Now I'm not dumb, so I don't open them, but what made me laugh is the one from "hating"... with an attachment. Yeah, TOTALLY opening that one.

Anyway, had to teach gmail to recognize it, but now it gets pushed off into the spam filter quite happily.

How do you teach gmail to recognize spam? I hit the "report spam" button, but that doesn't seem to prevent new ones of the same name.
