Why don't groups like PETA urge action on global warming?

Even if they aren't concerned about human suffering, you would think the issue of widespread extinction would be a concern.

The same reason you catch a lot of PETA members wearing vinyl or plastic. The majority of PETArds are clueless fucksticks who can't see beyond their cause-of-the-day.

If they can't SEE specific animals suffering than they can't work up the energy to be annoying.

(- Sorry, couldn't resist. You know my views on PETA. Hell, the best way to GET me to start using a product or service is if they're boycotting it. -)

As a former professional cook, I think PETA is nothing but a bunch of narrow-minded idiots and B-List Celebrities going for a 'Do Gooder' image.

That said, I must also agree with the above comment 100%.

what he said. also, as long as it results in the extinction of the human race and all domestic species of animals, they'd probably be in favour of it, since it'd give nature a clean slate.

I was kinda thinking that getting hundreds of very young, naive and slightly bonkers people with a lot of time on their hands over to the side of fixing the problem might be a positive thing.

But then again, maybe it would just create more problems.

Well yeah and they could totally get women naked for that too!

/snark

I hate PETA. HATE them.
Comparing chicken farms to the Holocaust? Not cool.

It is internally consistant though, if they really believe that human life and animal life is completely at par. It's straight out of "how to completely alienate your intended audience 101", but it is internally consistant.

Me, I kinda figure all life is equally valuable and we kill each other all the time. But I'm like that.

It's not though, because they care more about chickens than they do about women.

I'd rather go naked..." (http://www.peta-online.org/feat/pinup/dt/swain-1024.jpg)
Comparing a woman to a piece of meat (http://www.peta-online.org/feat/pinup/dt/traci-1024.jpg)

I wish I could find the image, but there was one ad they did where they painted a model up like she'd been beaten, to make the point that animals are abused.

Women are to be exploited, it would seem. Not animals.

PETA's a narrowly focused group. They don't care about the environment as a whole. To expand their range of concern would be to dilute their message.

Ok,..keep in mind this is a group that killed healthy puppies and kittens rather than allow them to go to a shelter where they had a chance for adoption.

The leader of the group has stated that the life of pig is as important as the life of a child.

The pig has more intelligence than this bunch.

Ummm...Yeah. Like, if all the humans died off, who would feed the kitties?

:)

You are officially the *only* person on my f-list stirring the environmental pot right now. Daily, I read peoples' complaints about the heat, but nobody seems willing or able to connect the dots. Thanks for keepin' it real!

Mostly just I hate feeling helpless. And if I talk to other people who think about this kinda stuff it prevents me from feeling quite so overwhelmed.

BTW, if you are trying to get people to think about it, I highly recommend dragging them to see An Inconvenient Truth. It has some highly off-ass-getting moments in it.

An Inconvenient Truth

I haven't seen this yet, but I plan to. And while films like this need to be made (especially now) in order to promote social/political/environmental awareness, I worry that the only people who go to see them are people who are already interested in the cause. Those who have their heads in the sand like to maintain their state of blissful ignorance, and would rather wait for the next Fast & the Furious movie to come out...

Having no faith in the human race is very discouraging!

I don't follow PETA a lot, so I have no idea. The WWF does, however, do so.

WWF is an environmental group, so it would make sense that it's a concern to them.

I'm more curious about the logic used by animal "rights" groups such as PETA and ALF. They seem very concerned about the treatment of individual animals, but not so much about potential extinction. I just find it incongruous.
