Why don't groups like PETA urge action on global warming?
Even if they aren't concerned about human suffering, you would think the issue of widespread extinction would be a concern.

If they can't SEE specific animals suffering than they can't work up the energy to be annoying.
(- Sorry, couldn't resist. You know my views on PETA. Hell, the best way to GET me to start using a product or service is if they're boycotting it. -)

I hate PETA. HATE them.
Comparing chicken farms to the Holocaust? Not cool.

The pig has more intelligence than this bunch.

You are officially the *only* person on my f-list stirring the environmental pot right now. Daily, I read peoples' complaints about the heat, but nobody seems willing or able to connect the dots. Thanks for keepin' it real!

Date: 2006-07-27 02:27 am (UTC)I'm more curious about the logic used by animal "rights" groups such as PETA and ALF. They seem very concerned about the treatment of individual animals, but not so much about potential extinction. I just find it incongruous.

Date: 2006-07-27 02:46 am (UTC)Me, I kinda figure all life is equally valuable and we kill each other all the time. But I'm like that.

Date: 2006-07-27 02:51 am (UTC)BTW, if you are trying to get people to think about it, I highly recommend dragging them to see An Inconvenient Truth. It has some highly off-ass-getting moments in it.

Comparing a woman to a piece of meat (http://www.peta-online.org/feat/pinup/dt/traci-1024.jpg)
I wish I could find the image, but there was one ad they did where they painted a model up like she'd been beaten, to make the point that animals are abused.
Women are to be exploited, it would seem. Not animals.

Date: 2006-07-27 02:28 pm (UTC)I haven't seen this yet, but I plan to. And while films like this need to be made (especially now) in order to promote social/political/environmental awareness, I worry that the only people who go to see them are people who are already interested in the cause. Those who have their heads in the sand like to maintain their state of blissful ignorance, and would rather wait for the next Fast & the Furious movie to come out...
Having no faith in the human race is very discouraging!
