I dug this up out of the archives. I'm using it because I think it's the first picture I ever took of the two of them together.



This is a not very good picture of caspervonb and the_axel. They are standing in front of the wrought-iron piano on the front lawn of Graceland. You can't see the mud all over their clothes (or mine of course) but we had just spent the night in a tent in the middle of a hurricane in Mississippi.

It was 1999 and I had known them both for about a year at that point, but that trip was the one where we really bonded as friends. We spent a week on the road during which almost everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. It ended with the car breaking down and stranding us in Windsor.

There are other people in my life I am close to, and who I love dearly but these two are the ones who will always stand out in my head when I hear the phrase "best friends".

(Don't you just love videos from the '80s? When you could throw absolutely anything in there and it didn't have to make any kind of sense.)
