For the few of you who don't read
bcholmes or
the_axel, I had PRK done on Monday.
I am now healed enough to read email if I squint really hard.
Yesterday the doctor pronounced that the epithelial tissue had regrown to cover the entire surface of my eyeballs and he took off the protective lenses. The surface of my eyes is still really pebbly though, and so yesterday everything looked like I was seeing the world through frosted glass. Today it's more like really really dirty glass.
My eyes also have different focal points - a strategy they use to compensate for the loss of near vision that's been creeping up on me. I find myself tilting my head from side to side to try and find the correct eye whenever I focus on something. I feel like
the_macross's cockatoo.
So far it's already eleventy billion times better than my eyesight was. I keep waking up in the morning and thinking, "Oh shit. I forgot to take my lenses out last night," because I can actually see that there is an alarm clock next to my bed.
I love living in the future.

Date: 2009-04-11 11:35 pm (UTC)I'll be interested to read about how it goes over time - I've been curious about getting new eyes myself, but i'm going to wait as long as possible.

Date: 2009-04-12 03:01 pm (UTC)I'll let you know how it goes. Lasik is pretty common here, but I only know one other person who had PRK and her surgery was only a couple of weeks earlier.

I hope yours heals fast.
