What is the deal with all the major release movies being shown in 3D lately? Axel wants to go see a movie tonight and anything that isn't playing at a rep theatre seems to be all about the 3D.

I think that has more to do with the studios trying to make an extra $3 off us than anything the public actually wants. See also: lax 3D TV sales.

By all accounts, Life of Pi was the first movie to really make the 3D work - but we never saw it. I don't mind some things in 3D but in other cases, it's just pointless. Like Hugo - that really did not need to be in 3D - added absolutely nothing to the film. I am looking forward to the next Star Trek movie being in 3D, however.

Hey, the dude who had his sight fixed by Hugo (http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20120719-awoken-from-a-2d-world) totally disagrees. ;)
