Today I'm going to ask you about fic exchanges.

I've never participated in one because I am crap at writing to deadlines. (And I have never successfully pulled off a piece of fanfic, I have no idea how you folks do it.)

fandomcalendar is probably the DW community people use most for advertising exchanges and fests!
flashexchanges is also a good DW community if you're into short wordcount minimums and short deadlines.

I don't do exchanges, I just write for weekly or monthly challenges. That way if I fail to meet the deadline I'm only disappointing myself. Writing FOR someone is just way too stressful!

there's so many. the usual way I find out about new fests and exchanges is by watching fandomcalendar, hanging out in the Yuletide Discord (the invite link is on yuletide_admin), or, because the Miraculous Ladybug fandom is mostly on Tumblr instead of someplace with sensible archiving and searchability like Dreamwidth, somebody I follow reblogs it and I happen to catch the right bit of the firehose.

I think I solved a plot conundrum in "j'ai reve", but it's not quite settled yet…

The only time I ever participated in something even close to a fic exchange was Bandom Big Bang which I have no idea if it's still going or not. I'm also terrible at writing to deadline and it would kill me to tap out and potentially leave my recipient without a story. Seems like you've got a decent list going though.

I don't tend to sign up for exchanges because I'm monofannish, and most of them require you to offer at least three fandoms, but I've been having a great time writing treats this year. I enjoy the giving more than the receiving anyway. :-)

21st: 201 words on my WIP. I was on a roll for the first half of the month, but now it's like I've got sand in my gears or something.

Only managed a little under 600 words yesterday, urgh, but it was better than nothing. I sign up for more exchanges than I care to admit heh (actually now that I count, I had over 20 sign-ups last year) but fandomcalendar really is the best resource. There's loads more again that I don't do because of lack of time or interest in the theme. I usually hear of new exchanges there first though, and it's a good reminder if I lose track of when the new round of something regular is going to start.

Day 20: hardly any writing, but given what I had to deal with today, I'm declaring it a writing amnesty day for me.

I find out about exchanges via FandomCalendar, and also via the "Bangs, Fests & Exchanges" threads in fail_fandomanon, but don't go into that community unless you want it to eat your life. (It's eating my life because it's the closest thing I've found to Usenet since Usenet...all the in-jokes and snarking and flame wars, it's like candy.)

You don't have to write fanfic to do exchanges. Original work is also an option.

Fic exchanges: I run holmestice, which is a Sherlock Holmes themed gift exchange that runs twice yearly. I sometimes participate in chocolateboxcomm (a relationship-themed exchange, 300 word minimum, that runs on Valentine's Day) and remixrevival (a remixing challenge, where you make a fanwork of someone else's fanwork). Last year I participated in unsent_letters_exchange, which is for epiltolary works. And I usually hear about things through word of mouth or subscriptions to the community.
