I am working a bajillion hours of OT again, which usually means I'm not doing much else. I'm trying to put as many hours into my weekdays as I can in the hopes of having an actual two-day weekend. Last week I worked every day and it was exhausting.
Currently I am closing tickets and listening to Skinny Puppy. As one does.
All this OT money is getting socked away, and anything that doesn't get spent on repairs[1] is going to pay for a small trip once the pandemic is over. I like these walls, but I want to look at some different walls for a while.
**
[1] Repairs we have had to pay far so far this year:
1. New roof for the kitchen
2. Replace the drain pump on the washing machine
3. Brand new furnace
4. New heating unit on the dryer
I predict the next thing to fall over and sink into the swamp will be the hot water tank. Axe was supposed to look into getting that replaced so I need to bug him about that[2]. It's kind of important to catch that one before it happens because we don't have a drain in the floor and the basement DJ has a lot of stuff that could potentially get damaged.
**
[2] I am the sole keeper of the executive function in this house. This makes me an enormous killjoy.
**
My phone has been slowly bricking itself over the last few months. It started with not being able to support more and more apps. Then it stopped being able to reach the network unless I was on my home wifi. Now it can't even do phone calls any more, it just punts everything straight to voicemail.
Nothing pisses me off more than planned obsolescence. There is nothing wrong with the hardware, the manufacturer just doesn't support it anymore. (Never ever buy a Huawei.)
Axe helped me find a reasonably priced replacement phone which is currently winging it's way across the border so I will have it in a couple of days. I suspect this current one will manage to melt or explode or something in the meantime.

I hope the replacement phone arrives before the current one bricks itself entirely. *crosses fingers and wishes you luck and fortitude*

Date: 2020-12-16 08:35 am (UTC)I've had two, both I selected because they were cheap and had replaceable batteries, which was (is) important to me.
In both cases, the software died before the batteries did. And I am not even sure why. I never update or install apps beyond the initial start up. It's kinda annoying.
I am now on my spare phone, a Motorola, and it does not have a replaceable battery, but the audio jack doesn't work, and I think it is following the same path to death as yours.
I miss when things were made to last.
Finally, where are you going to holiday?

Date: 2020-12-16 05:00 pm (UTC)I have no idea where I'm going to go. Maybe to Montreal. Maybe camping. Maybe something more exotic if things will stop breaking down on me.

Date: 2020-12-16 04:10 pm (UTC)Though I decided I want to have my savings at $X by next May/June, and that means saving about $Y per month between now and then, so I really do need to get organized with some sort of budget to make sure I do that.
Every year about this time, I say "I really do need to get organized with some sort of budget." Sigh.

Date: 2020-12-17 10:07 am (UTC)Hoo boy do I ever feel this one. I have neurological problems with executive function to begin with but I really have come to learn that non-male people tend to have to develop it no matter what the cost.
