I have not been posting much, I know. I continue to be buried under Things That Are Kind Of A Lot.
The Old Man was transferred to a rehab hospital a couple of weeks ago. After a week of quarantine, he was put to work with the physiotherapist on site. He loves it. The man did judo his entire adult life, I think having somebody working on helping him regain his strength on a daily basis has been doing him a world of good. Once he gets back to the residence I might talk to him about whether he wants to continue doing something similar if we can find somebody who will come on site.
So it's been going well. Still, being in a hospital instead of at home has been hard and he has been - kind of needy. So I've been visiting more often than normal, and calling every day, and reassuring him that no, we haven't forgotten about him. I've been doing his laundry and going to the store for him, and... yeah. Normally at the residence, his brother does a lot of the errands and it provides an excuse for them to sit around in his room and have a snootful afterwards. But brother doesn't like hospitals, so here we are.

Meanwhile, back at the Gin Palace, everybody keeps asking me how the renovations are going. Ha ha, I have such funny friends.
What did I say drawings were... Step 4? Yeah so we got the initial drawings a couple of weeks ago, sent back our edits and got that sorted in a couple of days. I got an update that we should expect the "official" version early next week. I imagine that's the version that includes things like "pipes go here" and "this is the supporting wall" that gets sent to the city for the permit.
The initial drawings did not contain any of things we asked for. Axel was a bit miffed about that but I explained to them that there are fashions in house design and we are oddballs who are not fashionable. The engineers fixed the stuff we asked for immediately when we gave our feedback.
I told BC the story and soon as I said the words "fashions in house design," she said, "Oh, so like open concept and an eight-foot island." Got it in one.
BTW, I looked it up and March 29 was the anniversary of when we hired our contractor. I am seriously considering him getting him a cake. (I say "getting" and not "baking" because As You Know Bob, I don't have a fucking kitchen.)
I'm glad now that I didn't start any seeds for this year, since it's looking unlikely I'll be able to get to the yard. If it gets warm enough I might take a screwdriver to the plywood that is currently in place of our kitchen door, just so I can get out back and dig around in the dirt.
Yeah, I probably won't get around to doing that.

Date: 2022-04-14 05:15 pm (UTC)If I had money to rebuild my kitchen, which I don't, I might change out the half-wall around two sides to something that had countertop and drawers underneath, because I'd like more work space and storage space, but I wouldn't have stools. I can see that most of my neighbours who have listed their apartments for sale have had the half-wall replaced with island+stools, though.
