Off work today, so I can get caught up on some things.
Old Man tasks
call physiotherapist: left a message
try and find a dentist: appointment made!
find pins to order
call LTC homes: got the contact info for the intake coordinator at our top choice and sent her an email
My tasks
pay credit card
update bill tracker
sorted RRSP contribution for this year's taxes
find samples for the designer: sent him a couple of emails with links - enough to get started at least
post ebay items About half done
post freecycle items
New List
put together Old Man's medical records for the new dentist. See if i can get a copy of his last set of xrays.
go through emails from the residence, I know there is something important in there about his rent
go through the paper on my desk and sort into "do now", "do after the holidays" and "see if you can farm off to somebody else".
designer got back to me, so I need to find a time to sit down with him and go through catalogues
Oh FFS. Something froze out back and all our water went gushing into the newly poured basement foundations. The contractors are right now figuring out where to put a hole in the wall to cut it off, but in the meantime we have to keep the water to the entire house shut off.
It could have been a lot worse - if I hadn't taken the day off it would normally be my in-office day, and it would have been much much later before catching on that there is a problem.

Date: 2022-12-14 10:50 am (UTC)I am sorry.
I don't understand actual freezing temperatures, but I assume the concrete may have cured by now?

Date: 2022-12-14 04:03 pm (UTC)Pipes freezing in winter is a real thing here - since ice has a bigger volume than water it will burst the pipes. Any outlets to the outside have a shutoff inside the house so you can close it and empty the pipes when winter comes. In this case the shutoff was also outside the house - or more accurately the inside of the house had retreated past it - so it wasn't good enough.
The concrete is dry, but apparently takes 3-4 weeks to cure before you can put weight on it. So walls will start going up in the new year.
