time flies slowly
May. 31st, 2023 09:50 pm22 – Solitaire Day: Remember when solitaire was a default thing on Windows PCs (along with Minesweeper)? Do you play solitaire, either with real playing cards or on your computer/phone?
23 – Title Track Day: Title tracks, or the songs after which an album is named, are often the greatest singles/best tracks on the album. Do you have a favourite title track? Or can you name a title track that is definitely NOT the best track on the album? Is the concept of a title track a thing of the past given how most people listen to music now?
24 – Brother's Day: Do you have a brother? If you don't, or if you don't get along with your actual brother(s), do you have someone else in your life who is like a brother to you?
25 – Towel Day: According to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, “A towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.” Do you agree with this statement? Are towels equally useful to those of us not engaging in interstellar travels?
26 – Paper Airplane Day: Can you make a paper airplane? Can you make one that actually flies more than a foot or two before crashing?
27 – Sunscreen Day: Do you use sunscreen regularly? Do you use it on its own, or do you buy other skin care products that include a sunscreen?
28 – Hamburger Day: Let’s face it, there isn't anything in the world quite so delightful as your first bite of a rich, juicy hamburger. Do you love hamburgers (or veggie burgers)? What are your favourite toppings to put on your burger?
29 – Paperclip Day: Paperclips are not just for holding papers together. There are many other things that you can do with them! What are some of the uses you've found for paperclips beyond holding papers together? Do you think Microsoft's Windows 97 personal assistant "Clippy" did irreparable harm to the reputation of paperclips worldwide?
30 – Loomis Day: Mahlon Loomis, a humble dentist, revolutionized the world when he created the “wireless telegram” in 1886. How different would your life be without wi-fi, TV, or radio?
22 – I have Ubuntu on my computer and it still has solitaire. 23 – You know, as much as I listen to music I have never really taken much notice of what individual albums are called? This is even more true now that most of my music is stored in my computer. 24 – No brothers. 25 – As long as it's a towel that is big enough to double as a robe if needed. 26 – My paper airplanes are terrible and can barely fly. 27 – I am the whitest of whitey mcwhiterfaces, so you better believe I use sunscreen. 28 – My toppings of choice are jalapeno peppers, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. 29 – I have paperclips on my USB sticks that are colour coded so I can keep track of what's on them. 30 – Pretty much unrecognizable, given how much of an impact pop culture has on our lives.
31 – Web Designer Day: We all visit various websites every single day of the year. What are "features" on some websites that really annoy you? What features do you appreciate the most on well-designed websites?
I hate how every website wants me to sign in before letting me read the page. I hate the intrusive ads that are so poorly coded they break the text so you can barely read it. I get that these sites need to support themselves, but so often it's done in such a way that the site becomes unusable.
CAUGHT UP!

How the fuck is it June tomorrow?
It hit 30 C here today, so I guess we're solidly into Toronto summer. I was hoping the insulation would be in by the time we started feeling like we need the air conditioning but obviously that's not happening.
Contractor was supposed to be here today, but I got a call from one of his guys saying he's dealing with medical tests instead and we'll see him on Tuesday. The dude went through major surgery less than six months ago, I guess I can't really complain.Today was also the last day of my May vacation days so I'm back to work tomorrow. I spent them all doing appointments and shopping and organizing instead of, you know, vacationing, but it was all stuff that needed to be done. I even cleaned off the front porch, so I can sit outside in the shade when the house gets too hot to stand. Maybe invite somebody over for a socially distanced beer.

Took the Old Man out yesterday for An Adventure - we used a the streetcar to take him downtown to go shopping for new shoes. It went way better than I expected, we timed it for mid-workday so both transit and stores weren't at their busiest and we were able to get him around fairly easily. I don't know that I would want to do it alone if it were to a new location though - there were a few times I had to send people on exploratory missions to figure out how to get some place before trying it with the wheelchair. But he handled it all with aplomb and then we went and had lunch on a patio and after he said he'd had a good day.
We agreed that he needed new shoes because he is trying his strength at standing up out of the chair and I want him wearing something with more traction than his slippers so he has a slightly lower chance of landing on his ass. (He's not supposed to, but that's not about to stop him - he has already gotten himself yelled at for getting out of bed by himself when he got tired of waiting for somebody to come and get him.) So if he's going to do it - he's going to wear non-slip shoes.
Maybe I should get him a helmet.

Tomorrow I start my turn as host for Write Every Day, which is literally the only trick I have ever found to get me to actually write every day.
I'm sure that would tell me something if I thought about it hard enough.

Ha!
(If it turns out that the trick is feeling accountable or "watched," you could give London Writers' Salon a try. They hold sessions from 8am to 9am in four different timezones via Zoom (I go to the NZ one), and after a few minutes of preliminaries, everyone just writes. I find it super helpful just for having a start time and showing up. :-) /please ignore this if you aren't looking for suggestions!)
Glad the Adventure went well! <3

Date: 2023-06-01 09:05 pm (UTC)The only one I can attend is the Wellington one, which is my timezone, and even that's inconveniently early for me. ;-p I think things shift around a little during daylight savings, so you could check again in a few months?

Mostly I would just hate myself if I could be the kind of person who could see him in need and just walk away.
