The new place is going to be wonderful. Note the "going to be". Right now it is kinda gross, mostly because the people who lived there smoked, and washing the nicotine off walls so we can camp out in a particular room without giving ourselves nightmares is severely disgusting.

On the plus side nothing makes you feel quite so much like a million dollars as a nice hot shower followed by beer-and-wings on a local patio after scrubbing yellow-coloured goo in 34 degree weather for four-five hours. I expect to be feeling like a million dollars quite frequently over the next month.

Advantages to being/living with an ex-squattie -- you can tolerate sub-optimal living conditions for a while, and you know how to do things like hook up your own utilities.

--------------------

Jenn met a bunch of my friends on Monday. Friends like her. She likes friends. She participated quite happily in the up-till-five-am beer-drinking and shit-talking that inaugurated getting the keys to the new place.

I am so completely floored by how cool this all is that I keep looking under the table to figure out where the catch is hiding.

--------------------

And on a completely different note:

One of the things I've been keeping my eye on lately is the progress of the GothCon Boycott over at [livejournal.com profile] gcinquisition.

Technically I have no personal stake in all this, since I've never been to a GothCon and don't know any of the people involved. But I do figure I have something of a professional interest in knowing which promoters are competent, professional and honest and in what events are worthy of possible sponsorship. And quite frankly a purely personal curiosity in knowing what the hell really happened.

As the next GothCon approaches, there have been a lot more posts from current organizers -- both in the community and elsewhere -- denying that there was any wrongdoing on [livejournal.com profile] 000100010001's part. Fair enough. But so far those who are calling for the boycott have been able to present a cohesive list of links, letters and other evidence to back up their claims. Those who would defend GothCon have only made vague claims and accusations that contradict each other and previous statements made by [livejournal.com profile] 000100010001.

So -- if you were weighing the evidence. Who would you believe?

Well this will be the first Gothcon I'm not going to be attending. [livejournal.com profile] _joi and I will be doing something else instead this year. I didn't even go because it was a charity event, just for fun, however, what I believe happened is crappy, and I just won't participate.

What are you using to wash the walls with? That tobacco stuff can be extremely nasty.

Do you feel at all like you have to be a motherly good influence? Or do you get to be more like an aunt that spoils the kid?

For the moment, just heavy duty soap. Mostly I just want to get enough crap off the walls and ceilings that I'm not afraid to touch things.

At the moment we are cleaing up rooms that we are going to be using temporarily until we get the top floor fixed up enough to move in completely.

Next step: Scrubbing out the room where we are going to be storing all our stuff. Then we start on the bathroom and the kitchen. :-p

Do you feel at all like you have to be a motherly good influence? Or do you get to be more like an aunt that spoils the kid?

You are talking to a woman who bought her nephew fake ID for his 15th birthday so he could get into a [livejournal.com profile] v_twins gig. I wouldn't know how to be a good influence even if I tried.

[livejournal.com profile] caspervonb refered to me a couple of times as "your mom" when he was talking to her, and I found that kind of... jarring. Not that I reject the term or anything, but I honestly don't feel like I'm entitled to claim the name "mother". I wasn't there when she was growing up. She had a very good mother, and I am extrememly thankful and grateful for that.

I'm not entirely sure what my role will turn out to be. Certainly I want to be a supportive person in her life. She's already experienced a lot of what it's like to be the Weird One and The Outsider -- I think it's a really cool thing that I can introduce her to other people have had to go through much the same experience.

I think this is something that will settle out over time. I figure the best way to handle it is just being myself.

i painted my last living room dark purple to cover the nicotein. and it had stucco walls as well. it was, uh, really interesting.

as for the rest, I'd go with the preponderance of the evidence, and logic. (would charities lie about *not* receiving donations? I somehow don't think so.)

Considering I called it a scam the first time around... I think my answer is easy to determine.

"snow" is a scoundrel out to swindle everyone she can without remorse. I say let the bitch rot.

I'm in the same place you are with regard to the GC Boycott. I haven't been to a GothCon, and I don't know any of the promoters, but as a potential attendee, I don't want to give my money to promoters with dubious business practices.

The evidence that has mounted against Snow is pretty bloody convincing. How interesting that, with her maintaining her innocence of any wrongdoing, she doesn't come forth with any sort of information to set things straight (but of course, if it doesn't exist...).

It seems that the "pro-GothCon" people are trying to create a diversion at this point...which speaks volumes.

It sounds like you will have a lot of work ahead of you, but it will all be worth it. Just think how nice it will be when it's all finished...and it's yours.

I am so happy to hear that things are going well with Jenn!

I've been following the GothCon problem for the same reasons as you. I see the proof shown by the Boycott people and read the comments made by Snow's flunkies (esp. Ugly Shyla), and believe the Boycott people. They have written proof. And Snow's excuses wear very thin after reading them.
