Today's accomplishment: Went through the rest of the crap in the main part of the basement. Threw a lot more stuff away, including some floor mats that were beyond salvaging. And found more desiccated cat poop. And so the ghost of Dr River Song lingers on.

The paint got moved away from the furnace. As did a lot of built up dust. I also found a box of electronic waste that was supposed to have been sent away for recycling, so that got consolidated with my other recycling and will get dealt with next time the toxic taxi comes around[1].

I think that's as much as I'm willing to do while the work is still going on. Note to self: Get some of that oily sweeping compound when I get down there for the final clean - so much of the dust was so fine it just got back into the air.

I'll deal with the cold room and storage shed last - I can better figure out what I'm keeping when I have more places to store things.

[1]This is a thing Toronto has for discarding stuff like old batteries and chemical waste.

Yay for accomplishments! \O/
Interesting tidbit about the toxic taxi - and a cool name for it! We have a lorry (with specialised containment containers etc.) coming every two weeks to various spots in the commune for anything chemical or toxic, but where and how you can rid of this stuff varies from commune to commune - some have collection containers in their guild/town halls or the building of the waste recycling administration. Batteries is easy, every supermarket and many other shops have containers right beside the paper and plastic bins. The latter are supposed to only be used for packaging you don't want to bring home from the supermarket, as everybody has their recycling bins at home anyway, but batteries is meant for any you might have.
Last week, I went to the recycling plant myself as we had half a regular shopping bag full of old batteries from MIL's house, far too many for the supermarket containers! I'm starting to fear that "Siljan's mum never threw anything away" is becoming shockingly literal.

Weird horse-farm-work-related info: we'd just lightly spray the floor with water before sweeping. Works fine. MMV.
