Write Every Day: Day 17

It has stopped snowing, praise be to Zod. Think we're supposed to get more over the course of the week, but just "flurries".

The pile of snow on my front yard is over 5 feet tall. I know this because I am 5'10" and it's over the level of my eyes. I'm not sure what happens next in this circumstance - it's not like I can call the junk removers and have them cart it away. (Or could I?)

I can still reach to throw more snow on the top, but since it's now a pyramid anything added to the top just rolls right back down the sides. Maybe I'll go out there with a spray bottle and see if I can build some ice walls to contain it. That might work.

That's a crazy amount of snow...I'm instinctively jealous because we hardly ever have 'proper' snow where I live, but in reality I know it's an inconvenience at best. I hope you don't get any more this week!

Finally forced myself back to writing today, 355 words.

I don't mind snow, but I do wish the city was better about keeping the sidewalks passable.

Dang. That is... snow. After the two and a half storms we got, we ended up with only about 3-4 inches of it on the ground. It's up to about 6 inches next to where I had to shovel. That's it. I want a real storm, but I don't want 5 feet in my yard! I can't even imagine how long that will take to melt!

When Syracuse had huge snows, sometimes dump trucks would collect it and pile it up in empty lots. That's only for, like, commercial spaces though. Homeowners just watched the pillars at the bottom of the driveway grow ever-taller.

There's a storm drain at the bottom of my yard and I have been putting a lot of effort into keeping that clear. Some day this will all melt and I do NOT want it in my basement.

Sounds like when I lived in northern Wisconsin and I was tossing snow a good foot above my head (I'm 5'9" myself) shoveling my driveway.

A few years ago we had a winter where it didn't get above freezing all winter. By the end of the season, the snow in our front yard over over 8 feet high. It had reached the point that I wasn't able to fling the snow up onto it and had to start carrying snow to throw over the fence into the back yard. I can easily do without another winter like that.
