Write Every Day: Day 26

[the_siobhan]

Talking about music genres a few posts ago, I was up (too late) last night listening to a DJ who plays "techno, hardcore, trance, drum & bass, and rave". And then every once in a while they would say something like, "I know I don't normally play house but I just really like this track."

Could I tell the difference in genre from one track to another? No sirs, madams, and gentlethems, I had absolutely no clue. I am but a simple old punk rocker and my music categories are simply divided into "has chainsaws" and "woeful lack of chainsaws".

Anyway. Great background music while writing and I got about 300+ words and two scene changes in there.

On Day 26, I had a lot of unfortunate adulting, but I did manage to add 374 words to "Ed and Ev..." before we had to leave for said adulting.

I think we are of an age where we can say my music is "like" and "not like."

Worth saying that I think whatever that DJ was playing is the stuff I like to listen to while working.

Hrmm... maybe my musical genres are "Shit I can work to" "Shit I can write to" "Shit I can shower to" etc.

That's probably more accurate. Some music is also better for writing specific scenes, dance music works well for a story that has a lot of action.

I'm similar in that I can generally consider almost anything pop music. Or if I go to a good folk festival (by which I mean Summerfolk in Owen Sound, which always has excellent programming, if only my non-driving self could get back to it these days) basically nothing on the bill is something I wouldn't consider "folk", no matter how eclectic or electronic.

Day 26: I got my T4 today so was busy playing with tax software and thought it would be another alibi sentence night, but lo the sentence again became a page.

Genres in electronic music are constantly growing and subdividing. I can't even keep up. XG recently released an album where they had some of their songs remixed into different genres, and one of these days I'm going to have to go back to the post announcing it so I can look up the different genres and learn what they are.

I love love love music that is covered cross-genre. There are so many fantastic covers out there. (Yesterday I saw a Midnight Oil's Bed Are Burning covered by an aboriginal metal band.)

I'm pretty sure I just found that "Beds Are Burning" cover. (Although it's possible there are multiple aboriginal metal bands who've covered it. I've learned to never underestimate the world.)

I really like the Metallica cover.

I think I would like the Nini one more if it were faster? It feels weird when a metal version is slower than the original. Maybe that's just me, I have a preference for a higher BPM.
