Whitby post

I have been seeing posts all week on my friends' LJs about what they are wearing, buying new clothes, stressing about not being able to buy new clothes.

elecrolyte and emulsional just called me from the road -- they are on their way back to Toronto from Buffalo, which is the location of the nearest Hot Topic. A road-trip specifically arranged in order to have new things to wear at Whitby.

I don't get it. Evidently other people notice these things. I notice tattoos and new limbs, and that's about it.

So this is my official announcement that I will be dressed in my usual fashion. The Aging Punk SlobTM.

I mean, damn. Who the hell wants to spend all that money on corsets when there is beer to be bought?

Know what you mean, but this time I decided to make a bit of an effort, partly because I now have no hair so I feel that I need to do *something*, and partly because so little of my old stuff fits now.

I can't drink, but there's always books and CDs.

I like clothes. I have lots of clothes. I thought the whole point of having lots of clothes was not having to go out and get new ones for special events, because I've got loads already.

Plus I hate corsets. I'm too addicted to being comfortable.

Though if I knew people were going to Hot Topic, I would have put in an order for some Invader Zim merchandise.

it's not so much having-new-things-to-wear-at-whitby as much it's a this-is-an-excuse-to-buy-stuff-and-make-myself-think-there's-a-reason-and-thereby-not-feel-guilty type thing.

I've kind of realized people just go out on a limb b/c they think others will notice people who are 'underdressed.' (North) American IME, seem to be very self-conscious about being underdressed for whitby.

IME, no one really gives a shit. Everyone is having too much of a good time getting shitfaced to care.

Heheh hear hear. When we drove up to Whitby in '94 there were exactly five leather jackets (and no luggage) in the trunk iirc. =)

some occasions corsets are a good thing.
other occasions beer is a good thing (or in my case, mike's hard cranberry lemonade).
and on those really special occasions: beer and corsets!

but you, on the other hand, would get people coming up to you saying stuff like "you're not siobhan!" if you were wearing a corset.

I'd just like to point out that a good corset often makes the wearer's tits look nice, which is a Good Thing (tm).
