I got stuck in Caribana traffic on my way home from work Saturday. It makes sense, my work is right smack in the middle of a large Caribbean-Canadian community, and the actual party takes place mere blocks from my house. I vaguely wondered why the bus was so crowded when I got on, it honestly didn't fall into place until I noticed that the woman I was standing next to had a Jamaican flag hanging off of her purse.

Took me two hours to get home. Compared to my normal 40 minutes. Should have brought my bike.

I wasn't that upset about it. I got a seat through pure luck, and I got to read my book all the way home. There were also tons of little kids for whom this was The Best Day Ever, and I tend to find that kind of thing kind of infectious.

The rest of my long weekend was taken up by house. My next dozen weekends will be swallowed up as well. My back is not yet broken, but holy crap am I sore.

I have nothing interesting to report.

I should have an open house when this is all done.

Wouldn't know what that's like - I've been doing ducts, insulation and re-wiring for what seems like forever. What are you working on?

Still the support beam. We have to rip out the ceiling and part of the walls and cut holes in the floor for the posts.

I feel your pain. Our lives are likewise consumed by house these days. Bitch of it is that I can't do any priming or painting right now cause it's so damn humid.

We're gonna have a house re-warming party when this is all done.

Ah, yes- along with old-house Character comes old-house Problems. Been there. Still am, come to think of it.

The hell of it is when you have to spend the time and money on things that just aren't fun- paying for roofs, windows, and wiring just don't offer the same pleasure as buying furniture and rugs, no?

Though if you've gotten as far as the picking of paint colours, that must mean the finish line is in sight!

I dunno if I'd say our house has character. Not yet anyway. We bought it because it was a dump, so we could afford it. :-p

I have to admit, it has kind of grown on me though. But it will be a loooong time before we're at the painting stage.
