The last time I ate meat was September 4[1]. That was my last full-on gallbladder attack.

Since then I've had a number of twinges in the nerves plexis in my back[2] but it never progressed past that point until today. Right now the back pain is stronger and it's starting to move so I think I might be in for a full-on attack tonight. Still, that's been three weeks since the last one, and right before I finally went cold turkey on the animal products I was up to two-three a week. (I had two just at Convergence.)

So it might be working, it might be just delaying the inevitable, or it might just be coincidence. It's still too early to tell.

The new diet has definitely stabilized my digestive system though - and I'm not gaining and losing 10-15 lbs over a 48 hour period any more.

[1] And it was nasty and greasy. I think I had to have that experience of sitting there thinking "I'm going through all this pain so I could eat that?" before I could finally get off my butt and make the change for good. I kinda wish my last meat experience was a really high-end steak dinner but if I had done that I would be always fantasizing about the Good Thing I gave up, so it's probably just as well my last meat-based meal was some really shite chicken wings.

[2] Typically an attack starts on each side of my back in a band under the shoulder blades, and then wraps around under my ribs to the front. If it doesn't get past my back it's annoying but not usually painful enough to bother with taking drugs for it.

I have to admit that after going veggie a month or so ago, although I don't think I had digestive issues, my tummy has been regular and I think my eyesight has improved.

I wish you good vegan and gluten free eats.<3

Since doing this I have daily thanked my parents for moving me to Toronto. I keep stumbling across stores and restaurants that have vegan options. It's awesome to realize I can still go out to brunch with Axel or beers with my friends.

(Speaking of which, I am much persuaded to go to Pauper's with Axel this coming Monday after work.)

Road trips are going to be murder, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

Guinness is vegan and so are Oreos.:

Lists like that make me happy.

I'd love to see you.:)

Did they change the formula/method? A friend's family worked in the plan for generations and his wife abstains from Guinness because of how it's made...She's vegan. However, I believe its the process, not the actual ingredients that make it non-vegan.

Oreos though, and Fruit Loops are vegan goodness that I find myself caving to fairly regularly...

What are your current food limitations? Not just curious, I also figure it would be good to know since I might cook or something while you guys are at work.

Vegan and no wheat. Wheat relatives like spelt still appear to be fine. It's not a gluten issue so other grains that have gluten are ok.

All other exclusions are solely the result of me being a picky eater. :-)

I'm not sure if we've had this conversation before, forgive me if we have.

Mothra has had exactly NO gall bladder attacks since cutting out almost all fat from her diet. Things like butter and full fat cheese were the worst. I don't know if I have gallbladder problems, but I have general indigestion from grease as well - esp. peanut oil, it seems.

I'd imagine that if you wanted to have meat, it would have to be white meat chicken or fish - tho fish can be fatty, the different kind of fat seems to not trigger that gall bladder issues, as least in the ppl i know with those issues

(Apologies if you get this twice, for some reason I can't see my response.)

Fish and chicken still bother me. I am heartbroken over the loss of sushi. I expect I will cheat occasionally and I will pay for it. So it better be damn good sushi.

I'm trying to reduce the overall fat in my diet as well - which is a ton easier without the meat. I find I'm actually having insane cravings for really high-nutrient fats like avocados and olives. I'm hoping supplements will take care of some of that.

Glad something is working, kindof?

The Queen of Bacon here is going pescatarian. :/ Wish me luck. We'll hope it helps with my digestive woes. When I have greasy meat now, it comes back to haunt me. I said my last prayer to the Porcelain Deity this past weekend.

I thinking worst case scenario we pack a cooler and I hit the grocery store for fruit and veggies every couple of days.

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm encouraged by the results so far - even last night's episode turned out to be a mild one.

Congrats! Keep it up. It gets easier as you go along.

The added fiber from eating a plant based diet has a double effect in that you are naturally eating less fat and the fat that you are eating becomes less bioavailable b/c it is sticking to the fiber and you're pooping it out.

nutritiondata.com is the most awesomest site for nutritional information of individual foods.

HOORAY!

It sounds like you've really pinned things down well. I've lived with vegans before, and had one cook for me for 9 months (I made him do all the cooking without soy, too, because I'm allergic to it). That was a pretty good experience.

Anyway, I've been meaning to post my various bean recipes for a while, now - they're filling, yummy, vegan, no wheat, no lotsa other stuff soups and stews. I always have one going on the stove. Do you read my journal, or should I put them over here in a comment?
