It appears that an interesting time is being had by all during this particular passage of the moon.

I have learned something about the various stress tolerances of those near and dear. Surprisingly high in some regards. Suprisingly low in some regards. Nothing surprising in that.

I have to stop dumping my crap on other people. It always leads to bad things.

(I don't have all this grey hair by accident, you know.)

Thngs are either getting better, or we are in the eye of the storm. Time will show.

Life is settled in it's unsettledness. I am moving. It's a relief, to finally have that all decided.

Just over two weeks until I go under the knife. Have I ever mentioned that I fucking hate surgery?

I'm freaking out people by making just-in-case plans. [livejournal.com profile] caspervonb in particular gets that deer-in-headlights look on his face when I start doing it. But it's a form of insurance for me. If I do all this, I won't have had to, and I can feel silly afterwards. If I don't do it, all I have to prepare myself with is worrying.

-------------------

If the purpose of this journal was to get my thoughts down in written form, what does it say the majority of the time all the energy I can muster for the damn thing is to post a poll or some other trivia?

I find them amusing. I do. I know, I suck.

-------------------

It isn't just me that's feeling the full moon either. [livejournal.com profile] the_fury, [livejournal.com profile] the_other_j and I saw multiple fights, chasing and ape-posturing chest-beatings on the way home last night.

I can't remember at what point in my life I stopped seeing that kind of loud street-scrapping as scary and dangerous and started thinking it was funny instead. After I'd been in a few genuine fights myself, probably.

There's nothing that'll get me laughing fastern than a blowhard shouting into my face.

And for some reason, they find this disconcerting.

how dare you!

You're not following the script, dude!

How are they supposed to know what comes next if you don't follow the script?

Heh. I was at a friends birthday party once with [livejournal.com profile] the_axel and some other folk, and these twats started hitting on some of our friends. To the point where they had to be told "don't fuckin' touch me". Her BF and I stepped in between and drew fire for a bit.

This caused them to start yelling obscenities at us. I couldn't do anything but laugh at them. They'd puff up and I'd chortle. The more blustery they got, they more I howled. I ended up having to hold my sides as they walked away very confused.

That rocks! That's the approach i'm taking with my students when they're little shits this year. I laugh at them and then go on.

hooray!
keeps me in a good mood.

Just-in-case plans

It's a very good idea to make these plans. Yes, it will freak people out, because no one likes to think about mortality, whether it's their own or people they love. That being said, so what you need to do to feel more secure about your upcoming surgery.

I take it you're making/updating your will, among other things?

surgery is scary because it's a complete loss of control. i think controlling what you can - ie, the just-in-case planning, taking care of hypothetical details - is a way to make it seem less huge and uncontrollable, which is, of course, a good thing.
