war and peace

I haven't participated in the peace meme until know, because I think such things tends to be... simplistic. Too many people see such things as a substitute for action in meatspace.
I am not a pacifist. I will fight for what I believe in. I will fight to defend myself and those I care about.
But this war is retarded. It goes against the better judgement of the UN, the American people and the rest of the world. Waged by a man who wasn't even elected to the position he holds in order to distract the public from the complete balls-up he has made of his job.
A link to Michael Moore. "how bad do you have to suck to lose a popularity contest with Saddam Hussein?"
A blog from Iraq.
So goddamn it. I wish for peace.
And I am going to contact my MP today and tell him that I am proud of my government for not getting dragged into this dick-waving contest.
Update:
Since a few other Canadians have mentioned thinking this is a good idea, you can find out who your MP is here. Thanks to
mzrowan for the link.
(His office was pleased and surprised to hear from me. I think they don't get many calls telling them they are doing something right.)

Date: 2003-03-20 07:34 am (UTC)That's a good idea. I might do so myself (and happily I'm no longer in Alberta where that email would go to an Alliance MP... Oh, well actually, my riding in Calgary was the ONLY one in Ab that didn't go Alliance. Somehow Joe Clark managed to sneak in there. Same dif really).
Might not hurt to send one to the PM as well.
I wonder how I find out who my current MP is?
MP

Date: 2003-03-20 11:35 am (UTC)I had forgotten I'd asked the question and attributed it to someone else! This is what no sleep does to Panic. It's not pretty folks.

Date: 2003-03-20 07:59 am (UTC)The letter of support to the MP is a damned good idea actually.
Embarrassingly, I have no clue how my MP stood on the issue though...better go check that out.
Yah..it is simplistic, I agree..but damnit, it really is that simple for me in this case. Welcome aboard. Peace..but with shit-kicker boots if necessary.

Date: 2003-03-20 02:03 pm (UTC)Have sent an e-mail to Bill Graham. Don't know if they care about the views of Americans in permanent residence. But maybe they do!
