Can you get some mouthwash with CPC? For both you and them - they should use the Enovid (or Covixyl, which is cheaper here) as well. Also H1 and H2 antagonists for you both: https://synecdochic.dreamwidth.org/805203.html
Looked at my daily allergy meds, turns out I'm already on one of the H1 antagonists - so I just need to pick up some over the counter for them, and H2 for us both.
Just and FYI, from my sister who is on top of ALL the Covid stuff, you can get Betadine cold defense nasal spray at any Canadian pharmacy. It has tested as well against Covid as Enovid and is a fraction of the price (and even cheaper if you order it from Amazon).
Oh, goodness, crossing all the things in hopes you won't pick it up too. Masking and isolation can work even at home, if you are able, though they definitely suck.
I have one of those small portable ones that's designed to take with you on a plane so that's been chugging away on my desk. And I cracked the window a bit for the fresh air.
My biggest worry is that they've been asleep on the couch since yesterday morning - not unusual behaviour with their other health issues - and I've been just walking around the house like normal, so there's no way of knowing how long they've been sick & infectious. I have been masking while the contractors are in the house so I might be ok, but it's probably too early to know for sure.
This variant (pretty much everything now is JN.1) tends to be a three-to-five-day incubation period. Doing the “I’ve been exposed” protocol of Enovid every three hours does cut down on full infection, so hopefully between the increased caution now and Enovid, you’ll be able to avoid infection.
I was hopeful prior to getting Covid that the fact that I was already on an MCAS med protocol (heavy-duty H1 and H2 blockers, mast cell stabilizer) would mean I had a lesser course of illness, but it didn’t end up turning out that way for me (either with the initial illness or Long Covid). Still, I did immediately put both the kids on a daily H1 and H2 blocker for the duration of their illnesses, just in case.
Is it weird to say that I'm lucky I have so many disabled friends? Because I have been getting excellent recommendations from people here who have needed to navigate this exact situation.
I second this. Communities of disabled people + allies have been doing excellent work throughout this entire debacle. It's one of the only reasons I still attempt to tolerate mainstream social media.
Well, fuck. If I were a betting man (I am not), I'd be optimistic - given you're taking all the precautions - you'll be likely avoiding it. (The new variants seem to have affected the infection window? IIRC). But good luck.
ENOVID + CPC mouthwash. Lumify eyedrops for eyes -- only Lumify works. Neti pot/squeeze bottle for sinus rinse. HEPA filter, open windows. If you can put the furnace fan on ON for constant filtration, then do that, too. Block any intakes in your room. Zinc, vitamin D. We also put towels under the cracks of the doors and put a fan out the window of the quarantine room. Basically get air flow from sick/suspected sick person directly out of the house. Bleach disc in the toilet tank. Walk outside for most of, like, two weeks? 3M Auras.
/me being helpy
Kids have both had COVID in their uni suitemates and haven't gotten it using all of the above.
Auuuuugh, very best of luck.
ETA: Viraleze was cheaper and easier to get. Seems to also work.
ETA again: We fully intend on getting Paxlovid based on ADHD alone for one person here. Roommate probably qualifies. Sooner is better. (Prepper reads this shit all day.) Xoxo augh.
This is all super helpful, thank you. I'll get them to call telehealth and see if they qualify for Paxlovid.
I checked our Enovid stock and we're down to one bottle. (That makes me think they haven't been using it, I'm on my third bottle out of a box of five.) I'll grab some of the Viraleze as backup since we'll probably go through that between the two of us.
Really hoping you don't get it, but if you do, I think you're eligible for paxlovid, which needs to be started in the first 5 days of onset of symptoms. If that happens, call your pharmacy right away to get some prescribed.
They don't qualify on age, but after a discussion with a pharmacist they got a script due to their other health stuff. I'm going to go pick it up for them later today.
I’d also suggest picking up strong mints or cinnamon candy. The mouth-taste of Paxlovid is fucking atrocious, but sucking on mints or cinnamon candy helps. (I found the cinnamon hearts worked far better for me, but for some folks mints work better.)
